4th Stimulus Check Update Today
TSCL President Rick Delaney has sent a letter to congressional leaders asking for more stimulus on Social Security Income (SSI), according to an update from the group last month.
Th Stimulus Check Update
“Thousands of seniors whose retirement savings have been depleted. I only eat one meal a day. I’ve heard from thousands of people who had to cut their prescriptions in half because they couldn’t pay for their prescriptions. Due to inflation this year, some drastic steps need to be taken,” the letter said. Many wrote to us saying, ‘Our government has forgotten.’
“The $1,400.00 stimulus check for Social Security recipients is a way for them to earn extra tax-free income,” Delaney said in the letter.

As inflation rises, Beneficiaries will receive a 5.9 percent increase in benefits next year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced. It’s the biggest growth in nearly 40 years. The increase is due to the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), which determines annual changes in Social Security payments.

“It’s going to be a COLA maximum benefit cap,” said Mary Johnson, a policy analyst for Social Security and Medicare at The Senior Citizens League. “However, higher COLAs and very high inflation are hurting consumers. The Senior Citizens League has received more than 200 emails in the past month, with many retired and disabled shippers describing the dire situation they face due to high inflation.”
SSA has increased payments by an average of 1.4% over the past 12 years and 1.3% for 2021. TSCG says the increase is now too small because of aging population inflation and rising other costs.
“Over the past 21 years, COLAs have increased Social Security benefits by 55 percent, but housing costs have increased by nearly 118 percent and health care costs have increased by 145 percent over the same period,” Johnson said.
Financial impact payments for those eligible for Social Security retirement income could help offset those costs, the aging group said.

“In 2021, Social Security benefits grew by only 1.3%, and the average benefit increased by only about $20 per month,” the report said. “But 86% of Social Security recipients surveyed said their costs have increased by much more than that amount.”

Stimulus Check For Social Security Recipients? Why A Senior Citizens Group Says It’s Urgent

The Internal Revenue Service is in the process of sending out about 159 million payments in its latest round of stimulus funds, totaling more than $376 billion since the U.S. bailout was approved in March.
The first stimulus – up to $1,200 per person – was approved in March 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic caused business closures and a sharp rise in unemployment. This payment will be followed by $600 checks distributed in December 2020. Next is the final payment of $1,400.
But those three payments aren’t enough, according to a group of 21 U.S. senators who wrote to President Joe Biden urging him to pay the monthly stimulus.
“We urge you to include in your long-term “build it better” economic plan automatic unemployment insurance renewals with recurring direct payments tied to economic conditions,” the senators wrote. “Families deserve the assurance that this crisis is over and that they can put food on the table and a roof over their heads. Families should not be at the mercy of ever-changing legislative timelines and ad hoc solutions.

“An additional check is not enough,” the team wrote. “The next check will provide temporary relief,” he said. But when that money runs out, families struggle to pay for essentials again.”
But the better question is: Will Biden support another payment? Instead of focusing on a $2 trillion infrastructure package, the president has not indicated he would support other initiatives. Even if Biden supports other initiatives, improving unemployment numbers; Easing COVID restrictions and ramping up vaccinations could make it harder to get a package through Congress.
Experts continue to point to the economic benefits of direct payments amid current funding needs. According to U.S. Census Bureau data collected in March, 30% of Americans were unable to cover their household expenses last month. separately An analysis by the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution’s Tax Policy Center found that a fourth stimulus of $1,400 would lift about 7.2 million people out of poverty.
The prospect for a fourth round of stimulus is unclear, but monthly payments for the enhanced child tax credit are set to start in July.

Monthly installments of $250 or $300 will be paid beginning in July and ending in December. The remainder can be claimed as a 2021 tax credit when you file in 2022.

Americans previously received three other stimulus checks, including $1,200 in March 2020 and $600 in December.
The third check, sent to eligible Americans after the passage of the $1.9 trillion U.S. bailout law, includes up to $1,400 for singles and dependents and $2,800 for married couples. Many families received more money than they did in the first two stimulus checks due to sending payments to adults.

Starting July 15th, eligible families will receive hundreds of dollars each month for an entire year.
