Apple Music’s streaming service was relatively late to the party, but quickly climbed the ranks thanks to excellent music management, unique 24/7 Apple Music 1 (formerly Beats 1), hits and country music radio stations, and integration. Apple’s ecosystem of headphones, TVs, smart speakers, watches and more.

The Library tab contains your entire music collection — every album (if you’ve turned on iCloud Music Library) and your saved Apple Music playlists and songs stored on your phone. Everything is divided into categories: playlists, artists, albums, songs, downloaded music. Below these, you can scroll through recently added tunes, which is handy if you want to revisit your latest handset.

When you first sign up for one of the programs supported by the Apple Music app, you’ll be presented with floating red bubbles highlighting different music genres. We’re impressed by how interesting the playlists are – not only in the song selection, but also in the way they’re put together and presented. From greatest hits to lesser-known artist tracks, to playlist influences focused on a specific band or songwriter or era, Apple’s selection is nuanced, thoughtful and intelligent.
Countless playlists are curated by people who understand music, not just cold-blooded algorithms. Even the words “Because you searched for…” before an artist or album recommendation can make the user experience more personal.
Better music management works with Apple’s HomePod and HomePod Mini smart speakers, which are only integrated with Apple Music. If you have a HomePod device, ask Siri to play your favorite songs.
Apple Music Classical Seeks Success Where Other Streaming Services Have Stumbled
Spotify isn’t staunch when it comes to recommendations, but Apple Music’s little tweaks make everything seem handpicked for you. Aside from a weekly updated ‘New Music Mix’ tab for you, Apple Music doesn’t seem to offer you instant new music and chart-toppers like Spotify and Tidal. All of them are hidden in the Browse tab, where you can find the latest releases, exclusives, full HD music videos, TV shows and playlists.
It’s worth diving into each section as there are hidden gems throughout, including countless playlists sorted by genre, activity and mood.
Apple Music 1 Radio is unique to Apple Music, plus new hits and exclusive country music radio stations – 24/7 global stations with celebrity hosts and star guests.
