Avatar: The Last Airbender is a full, satisfying sequel that lives up to the first film in terms of truly beautiful 3D effects and cinematic experience. However, the story and characters aren’t particularly memorable, so it fits the first film as well. “Waterway” is a fairly simple film with a fairly simple story and only serves as a vehicle to showcase the vivid CGI world that director James Cameron is happy to create.
If you remember what it was like to see the first “Avatar” in theaters in 2009, know that you will have the same experience this time.
In the new sequel, Jake Sully and his wife Neytiri settle into a peaceful life in the lush jungles of Pandora and raise their entire Na’vi family. But when the bad guys come back to colonize the planet, Jake runs away with his family to hide with the aqua tribe.
Let’s get that out of the way first. Like the first film, Avatar: The Last Airbender has a relatively simple plot that follows fairly simple story beats. Villains emerge, the main characters try to hide, but the villains find them anyway, and we get a big action climax. And to tell this whole story, apparently, it takes more than three hours.

Most of the main characters are the same as they were the first time around, only now Jake and Neytiri have four children who can be hard to tell apart at times. They’re all tall, gangly blue aliens, and they’re all dealing with typical teenage problems.
Fortunately, the story is secondary to all the spectacle, and “Waterway” is easily worth watching.
Director James Cameron has made a career of pushing the theatrical experience to its limits, and he has once again succeeded in creating a spectacular, all-encompassing adventure. He pioneered a cool new 3D filming technique for the first film, and it returned for the sequel. Waterway is a stunning movie that looks and feels better than almost any other movie you’ll see in years.
The jungle has never looked so lush. The ocean has never looked so inviting. The characters dive deep into beautiful, seascapes teeming with vibrant underwater life. The big, blue aliens – the Na’vi – look as cool as ever. They look real and that’s the most important part.

It’s been more than 12 years since James Cameron’s Avatar was released, but we’re finally hearing rumors of an ETA for the first trailer for its long-awaited sequel.
In what will be one of the biggest new movies of 2022 — the decade, if not — Avatar 2 hits theaters on December 16, though we’ve seen reports suggesting we’ll get a first look at the sci-fi epic. Doctor Strange 2 will be released on May 6.

Ankler’s Jeff Sneider claims that Disney is hoping to debut the first trailer for Avatar 2 during screenings of the upcoming Marvel movie in hopes of drumming up interest in both Disney-backed projects.
Of course, there was no official confirmation from 20th Century Studios (the subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios that produced Avatar 2) regarding the trailer date and the arrival of the 6th seven months.
That being said, audiences have waited long enough to return to Pandora. Originally slated for a 2014 release, Avatar 2 has been plagued with delays unlike any other film in history, and it will take a major marketing campaign to put the film back on the radar of moviegoers worldwide.
Plus, it fits the Avatar/Marvel Buddy strategy. Even if Snyder’s suggestion of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness pans out, we’ll bet that Avatar 2’s trailer will arrive on July 8, along with another Marvel Phase 4 project, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Either way, we’re sure we’ll get our first look at James Cameron’s sequel in the coming months.
As for what we saw in the first Avatar 2 trailer, the jury is out. We know Kate Winslet will star alongside a returning Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, but details surrounding its plot are thin on the ground.
As a Cameron project with a big budget, we expect big things. The 2009 original marked a groundbreaking leap for special effects, and its sequel is rumored to have an equally boundary-pushing underwater performance shot sequence.
It’s easy to forget that Avatar 2 is now under the Disney umbrella. In 2019, the world-famous entertainment studio completed the purchase of the equally huge brand 20th Century Fox for $ 71.3 billion – which brought franchises including Alien, Planet of the Apes and, of course, Avatar, under Disney’s control.

The latter is especially interesting because Disney now owns the rights to future installments of the highest-grossing film of all time. To date, Avatar has grossed more than $2.8 billion worldwide, and its history book dominance has only been threatened once – by Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame in 2019 (Avatar has since been re-released and won the No. 1 spot).
Of course, Disney also owns Marvel Studios. This means that despite Titanic, the Walt Disney Company currently claims five of the six most successful films of all time (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home).
If Avatar 2 repeats anything close to its predecessor’s performance, Disney is well on its way to further cementing its position as a dominant force in Western popular culture.
