. Unfortunately for Nickelodeon, the love of my life has always been Cartoon Network, which has always provided me with great anime and cartoons. It means I’m missing out on one of the best cartoons I’ve ever seen, so I recently decided to jump into the first season. It’s a stimulating and inspiring anime that touches on amazing topics. The writing is simply fantastic, as are the characters and their development throughout the story.

Starting with Aang, who is the epitome of always being cheerful despite the circumstances: growing up doesn’t necessarily mean getting old. Katara and Sokka are just pure courage and family bonding. The dynamics between the characters as well as the dialogue are incredibly strong. And with animation: voila, magic. I’m so glad I got to watch and catch the anime everyone is always talking about and it’s incredibly worth it. I thought I’d share some of my favorite moments and lessons learned from the show:

King Omashu: There is something so sweet and innocent about Aang, how he can remain a child and enjoy life regardless of the burdens placed upon him. Seeing how King Bumi is with Aang and how he teaches the importance of thinking outside the box but still enjoying life.

Aang comforts Hei Bai and talks to Avatar Roku: I loved this episode, it showed how Aang is able to keep peace not only between humans but also with spirits, thus giving Hei Bai hope that his forest will grow again. Also notable is how the previous avatar Roku summons him in the spirit world and what Aang goes through to get there.

Zuko saves Aang: I know Zuko has his own agenda, but he still went and saved Aang from the Fire Nation. Zuko fought and won and continued to rely on his normal moves. I see Zuko as a very interesting character with a ton of potential story.

Katara battles Master Paku for her right and opportunity to learn waterbending: In the Northern Water Tribe, women are not allowed to learn waterbending, only healing. As Master Paku refuses to teach Katara, she challenges him to a fight – though she doesn’t win, she still wins. She is able to earn his respect and the position of his student. I found this to be one of the most impactful moments of the season.

Northern Fight to Protect the Moon Spirit: It turns out that Fire Nation Admiral Zhao managed to find a way to kill the Moon Spirit without thinking about the consequences. Aang transforms into his avatar state, bonds with the Water Spirit, and destroys the Fire Nation in a spectacular battle. The young princess then gives her life for the moon spirit, restoring the balance between yin and yang. It was beautifully done, if bittersweet, and tied in well with many of the season’s themes.

Now streaming on Crunchyroll, the second season opener of Jujutsu Kaizen S02E01: “Hidden Inventory” brings back a young and daring Gojo.
