Avatar: The Last Airbender was a unique animated series for UStelevision that had a huge impact. Mixing Eastern mythology with martial arts and fantasy, the show was very different from anything else being produced in the US at the time, especially Nickelodeon, home of SpongeBob Squarepants. Although it didn’t last long on TV with 61 episodes in 3 seasons, it had a very passionate audience that loved the show.

“The Promise” is a comic book that started a direct-to-series series published in 2012. It continues the story of Aang and his friends, starting shortly after the end of the original animated series. The main characters here are the Avatar and Zuko, the new Fire Lord.

Although the war is over, both must overcome the tensions that exist in the world at this time of significant change. So they take a slightly different approach to solving problems in one of the former Fire Nation colonies before they get worse.

This leads the two characters, who have become great friends, down a dangerous path that could pit them against each other again.

To make the situation even more dramatic, Zuko asks Aang to make a promise: that if he begins to follow the path of his father Ozai, he will guarantee that the Avatar will stop him at all costs, even if it means killing him. This promise gives the three-part comic its title.

Despite the hero’s condition, he follows Zuko in search of his mother. Aang, Sokka, and Katara also help with the search, finally giving the answer to what happened to Ursa.
