Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) originally aired from 2005 to 2008 and was created by Michael Dante DeMartineo and Brian Konitzko. It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named Aang, who discovers that he is a powerful elemental bender known as the Avatar and sets out to end the Empire’s hundred-year war against the Fire Nation.
The series is set in the fictional world of benders, people who can manipulate the elements of water, earth, fire and air. Non-benders and even entire regions made up of benders: the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Air Nomads, and the Fire Nation. After all, the avatar is the only person who can bend all elements and is responsible for maintaining balance and peace in the world.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) was a huge hit, but it also got a sequel known as The Legend of Korra (2012). Legend of Korra (2012) aired from 2012 to 2014 and takes place 70 years after Avatar the Last Airbender (2005) and follows Aang’s Avatar successor, a 17-year-old girl named Korra. Both series would become noted for their East Asian-inspired world-building, their handling of serious themes such as colonialism and gender profiling, and their inclusive casts.

Each season of Avatar the Last Airbender (2005) and The Legend of Korra (2012) are referred to as “books” to represent different seasons of the series and an overarching theme. The first season of ATLA is known as ‘Water’ because the Water Tribe is the main focus of the season. It features a still alive frozen form of Aang that was discovered by two Water Tribe teenagers known as Katara and Sokka.
After Sokka and Katara free Aang from the ice, the two take him back to their village and unwittingly set off a chain of events that lead to them being targeted by Fire Nation Prince Zuko. Zuko, who was searching for the Avatar with his uncle Iroh, had a tough time against the combined efforts of Aang, Katara, and Sokka.
Since Aang must master the four elements to become a full avatar, Sokka and Katara decide to take him to the Northern Water Tribe so he can learn from a waterbending master. Along the way, they have many conflicts with Zuko and meet all kinds of new friends and enemies. When they finally reach the Northern Water Tribe, Aang, Sokka, and Katara are put to the test when the Fire Nation attacks.

Following the chaotic events of the season finale of Book 1, this second season finds Aang, Katara, and Sokka searching for an Earthbending teacher and traveling to the capital of the Earth Kingdom. Meanwhile, Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh continue their search for Aang when they run into Zuko’s ambitious sister Azula.
The trio eventually becomes a quartet when it comes to our main heroes when they recruit Toph Beifong, a blind girl who is highly skilled at earth bending. Despite some initial resistance and conflict, Toph becomes Aang’s Earthbending teacher. Eventually their journey leads them to a large library in the desert where they find important information about the war and the kidnapping of Aang’s bison Appa.
At the same time, Zuko and Iroh, now considered traitors to the Fire Nation, go on the run and must try to avoid detection by Azula, who is chasing Aang and the others. After Zuko briefly leaves his uncle to go on his own journey, the two are reunited on their way to Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom. Aang, Katara, and Sokka also travel to Baa Sing Se to find Appala and eventually confront Zuko and Azula in a climactic and shocking battle in the season finale.

This final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender begins with Aang regaining consciousness after the sensational ending of season 2. As the sea begins, we learn that Sokka, Katara, and Cannon have disguised themselves as Fire Nation refugees and the whole world thinks he’s dead. After briefly reuniting with Sokka and Katara’s father, Aang also disguised himself so that he and his group could roam the Fire Nation freely while searching for the firebending teacher.

At the same time, at the end of Book 2, Zuko is welcomed back to the Fire Nation for his actions against Iroh and Aang, and is welcomed as a hero along with his sister Azula. Although Zuko agrees at first, his internal conflict leads him to a huge secret about his family that forces him to choose between remaining loyal to his father or joining Aang’s team and going his own way.
When Aang’s party and Zuko finally reunite, Zuko must gain trust before working with them to teach Aang forebending. Zuko’s father, Fire Lord Sozin, must take several steps to defeat him before the arrival of the comet that makes him omnipotent. With a victorious series finale, the Fire Lord is finally defeated, Azula is not created, and a new era will begin when the series ends.
70 years after the events of ATLA (2005), 17-year-old Cora is now the new Avatar. In the first episode, we first meet her as a child and learn that she is a child who can bend three of the four elements. We then give a teenage Korra her firebending test, which she passes with flying colors. From there, she travels to Republic City to train with Aang’s son Tenzin at the nearby airbending temples and begins the arduous journey to master airbending.
This season is not only for its main female lead, but also for showing how the Avatar world has changed since Kora became the new Avatar. Republic City has a steampunk influence from the 20s, and Tenzin isn’t the only descendant of Team Avatar. There are also new characters such as brothers Bolin and Mako and the resourceful beauty Asami Sato. Along with a new heroine comes a new antagonist named Amon, who leads an anti-Zukta revolutionary group. At one point, Korra is captured by one of Amon’s friends and has a vision of an adult Aang’s past, learning a big secret about Amon.

Slowly but surely, Korra begins to prove herself as the Avatar, combining the old style of bending with a new athletic style known as probending. She also learns how much of a threat Amon is when he displays a terrifying ability to affect benders. With the help of new allies, Korra and the others finally defeat Amon for good.
Six months after the events of Book 1 Air, Korra believes she has mastered airbending, Mako becomes a police officer, Bolin tries to become a solo tryout athlete, and Asami takes over her late father’s technology company. Korra visits her family from the Southern Water Tribe and meets her father’s brother Unlak and his children Esca and Desca, Tenzin’s mother Katara, and Tenzin’s sister Kay. When an angry spirit attacks the Water Tribe Festival, Unlak calms down, and from then on, Korra decides to learn from him instead of Tenzin.
From there, Korra attempts to learn breathwork, the ability to calm spirits from the plane of reality known as the spirit world. Unfortunately, she is interrupted by a war in between
