An Extended ‘avatar: The Last Airbender’ Universe Is In The Works
When it was announced, there was a lot of speculation about how Azula’s journey would be in this comic, as between the show and the sequel comics, it wasn’t very good. At the end of the anime series, he had a mental breakdown, and this led to his defeat. When he reappears in the comic trying to find him and Zuko’s mother, Ursa, the image is also very powerful. Then he is basically replaced by the second daughter of Ursa and her new husband in the life of her mother and father.
Others also wondered if this could be the beginning of a journey of redemption. Since Azula was only 14 years old at the start of the series, I hate the idea of her being beyond repair. Not to mention as a fan of Catra, I don’t like the idea of fictional teenagers, suffering from trauma, being over-treated. That being said, Azula is a war criminal and unrepentant of her actions.
I’d like to see Azula develop into a more complex character, redemption or not. I just want Azula, and her mental illness, to be treated seriously and with real grace instead of the words we’ve been given so far. Azula is one of my favorite characters, and I hope that whatever happens will be good.
As for Korra, I’m excited to see more of the bisexual icon and her love interest, Asami.
