Despite the rumors, Dante Basco, who portrayed Prince Zuko in the animated series, was cast in the upcoming Netflix series, but he finally confirmed that he will not return as Prince Zuko.
In an interview with ComicBook.com in September 2021, Dallas Liu (who plays Zuko) talked about the pressure of the first season, saying:
“… because of such a beloved show, I feel like there is some pressure to do a great job, and I’m not doubting anyone or the job, but it’s the biggest job and the biggest role I’ve ever been in. I mean, it was kind of this amazing character and one of my favorite things in the animated series. So I mean I’m a Zuko fan like everybody else. I mean, obviously I’m happy because it’s like a dream, but it gets a little stressful at the same time. You know? It’s good to work and I mean at the end of the day I can’t just do what I can but I hope people enjoy what I do.

I’m not happy that they won’t be there, so I don’t know. I really don’t know what will happen in the future, it is a big sign. Yes, I’m sorry we didn’t get a good answer, more clarity.”
