Avengers Age Of Ultron Deleted Scenes – Allow me to be blunt here; someone uploaded all the deleted scenes of Avengers: Age of Ultron directly from the Digital HD release (that’s a fancy word for the iTunes or Google Play version) to YouTube. I watched the video, which somehow survived four days, but I will not upload it here in this editorial where I discuss these sequences. I’ll describe the scenes, but honestly, I’m already uncomfortable enough to give such illegal content this kind of publicity by talking about it. The least I can do is not upload the video itself and give it more views. I encourage you to skip watching and settle for my descriptions of the scenes in the video.
That said, Avengers: Age of Ultron’s deleted scenes are especially interesting because there was a lot of media hype about the sequences from the movie, and Joss Whedon noted in interviews that he and Marvel had different views on certain sequences. This kind of discourse is common in all movies, but honestly a lot of media outlets are looking for clickbait headlines to generate page views (no really, go back and check out some high profile Age of Ultron reviews and see how many of them just spend sentences on talking about the movie itself and spending the rest of their column on a diatribe about how Marvel “ruining movies”) took these comments as “AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON RUINED BY EXECUTIVES!!! MARVEL IS SATAN!!!”
Avengers Age Of Ultron Deleted Scenes
A measured response from Whedon two months ago noting how Age of Ultron contained compromises but was also one of his most personal works, pretty much in line with what I’d always thought happened in the movie, which I’d like to be one of are the best creations to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one whose weighty themes are a big part of its charm. Films are a collaborative project, but that kind of collaboration shouldn’t come at the expense of a filmmaker’s vision, and in my book, Whedon’s fingerprints are all over the film. Anyway, the back and forth between Whedon and Marvel left a lot of scenes on the cutting room floor, which I’ll explore in spoilery detail in this piece. Let’s take a look at three deleted scenes (one of which is quite long) from the movie and hear my take on them, as well as my verdict on whether or not they should have been cut, okay?
Land Of The Nerds: A Look At The Deleted Scenes Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Captain America’s parental connection to the twins is interesting, as he himself notes that he and this super-powered duo both had a “…German scientist experiment on them to save their country.” The kind of loyalty the two have to their homeland of Sokavia takes center stage in this deleted scene, which sees Quicksilver dispensing medicine to several residents of Sokavia, including an elderly gentleman giving some much-needed medicine and Quicksilver presenting a woman wearing a nice dress . Scarlet Witch interrupts his flirtation, the two have a short talk and then the son of the woman who hit Quicksilver tells The Twins that someone wants to see them in a church. A man who christens the child Iron Man, but who is actually Ultron.
The sequence was clearly intended as a way to show where the two characters went after the opening battle and to enter the scene in the movie where they first meet Ultron. I love the first installment of this sequence of Quicksilver helping out various civilians, but good God, the dialogue in the exchange between him and Scarlet Witch is clunky as hell. She literally tells him, “You keep stealing things (referring to the dress) and you get shot!”, which, no, that’s too on the nose. Demonstrating Quicksilver’s ability to take bullet wounds is much better handled in a visual gag later in the movie, making this exchange both unnecessary in the grand scheme of the story and a flawed example of an exposition on himself.
Also; like the first Avengers film, a civilian female who is rescued in the film’s climax has a deleted scene that gives her a little more screen time. Yes, the woman who gets a dress from Quicksilver is the lady whose son Hawkeye is going to Sat
Unfortunately. I’m especially glad this part was left out, as it could have made Age of Ultron’s world feel too small. The whole point of these heroes is that they want to save all civilians, no matter who they are. Making her more of a random individual in the final cut of the movie is a much better move in my book.
Avengers Age Of Ultron Deleted Scene 4
Should it have been cut?: I’m fine with the scene being cut to this shape, but I actually wouldn’t have minded seeing the twins helping civilians. However, I wish both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch helped members of the community and they should have been notified that Ultron wanted to see them through someone else.
This mainly consists of minor dialogue differences, but I think they’re worth talking about. The morning after Ultron introduces himself at the Avengers tower party, the various members of the superhero team try to figure out where the crazy bot will go. A little conversation between Maria Hill and Captain America is the first major difference in this scene, while a brief extension of Hawkeye being caught on his cell phone prompts Captain America to deliver one of the film’s worst lines (when Hawkeye notices that he’s still waiting for his contacts to give him new information on Ultron’s location, Cap replies “Wait faster!”), which I’ve now taken out of the final product, thank God, every day.
This scene features an exchange that, in my book, absolutely should have been withheld, with Rhodey (Don Cheadle) talking to Black Widow and Iron Man via video chat, explaining that Ultron has the military’s various weapons and technologies in a state of chaos brought . This means that War Machine is deployed by the government on various missions to help keep the peace, which explains why War Machine disappears after participating in the very first battle against Ultron. Plus, it offers a nice moment of compassion between Tony and Rhodey, as Stark gives his friend a piece of tech to keep Ultron from hacking into his armor.
There are only a few extra lines here, although I love the part where Tony notes that Ultron’s anger probably stems from Bruce Banner’s involvement in the project. Less successful is a hand gesture from Thor, who notes that Heimdall (Idris Elba) cannot transport him back to Asgard because he “… either doesn’t look or [brings Thor back]”. Oh, and Tony references Banksy when he sees a bloodied note above the Struckers corpse.
Deleted Scenes From The Marvel Phase Two Box Set!
Should it have been cut?: “Wait Faster” should have been buried deep deep underground, never to see the light of day. I can take or leave most of the rest of the scene, though I wish Tony would have noted Banner’s connection to Ultron and especially the explanation of why Rhodey is leaving the picture in the last clip.
Many elements of Age of Ultron irked certain moviegoers; The Hulk/Black Widow romance (for the record, I was all set to hate that combination and end up loving them as a couple) was one such entity, but Thor’s side quest to figure out how to defeat Ultron defeat may have caused the greatest outrage. . Many called it too rushed, cut to the bone in the editing room. I didn’t think it was terrible or that bad (I had been hearing horror stories about the subplot for days before I saw the movie, so I was prepared for it to just ruin the movie), but I actually agree that it was the least developed part of the function. It feels like Joss Whedon is in a hurry to get Thor back in The Avengers, so he’s pared down the entire journey to its bare essentials. It’s not perfect, but it didn’t distract me from the movie at all, even though I was interested in watching the original version of the sequence.
Since the movie came out, it’s been an open secret that the editing room sequence has changed a lot, effectively leaving Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) with no purpose in the scene. But in his original form, there really was a reason why Thor came to him. You see, in this deleted scene it is noted that the river that Thor dives into, in order to gain knowledge on how to overcome Ultron, will allow him to get answers from the immensely wise Norn, an entity from Greek mythology who the body of Thor will inhabit when he walks in the river. When Thor is taken over by the Norn, Erik is able to ask him several questions about how to take down the robot enemy terrorizing Earth.
