Begin Again Soundtrack Full Album – Begin Again is a 2013 American musical comedy-drama film written and directed by John Carney and starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. Knightley plays a singer-songwriter who is discovered by a record label executive (Ruffalo) and partners with him to produce a record album recorded in a public space in New York City.
Following the success of his 2007 musical film Once Upon a Time, Carney wrote the script for the 2010 film Begin Again and hired Gregg Alexander to compose most of the film’s music. Production on a budget of US$8 million began in July 2012, with filming on location in New York City. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013 and was released in theaters on June 27, 2014, alongside the release of the film’s soundtrack. It grossed over $63 million worldwide and received mostly positive reviews from critics. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the film Lost Stars.

Formerly successful record label executive Dan Mulligan lives in New York, separated from his wife Miriam, and struggles to keep up with the changing music industry. After being fired, he began drinking, leading him to a bar on the Lower East Side, where he reciprocated with Greta James.

Greta is a young, fiercely disenfranchised songwriter from the Glands who has broken up with her longtime boyfriend and songwriter Dave Cole. A newly successful musician, she has an affair with a production assistant. Impressed by Greta’s music, Dan offers her a contract with his former record label, and although she initially declines, she reconsiders and agrees.
Dan and Greta meet Saul, Dan’s business partner and record label co-founder, but he doesn’t see the same potential in her, cutting her off. Undeterred, Dan suggests they release their own album together, recorded in various public venues around town over the summer. Recruiting a team of talented musicians including Steve (Greta’s happiest and oldest friend), Dan sets out to create an album worthy of release. During this time, Dan and Greta bonded personally and professionally, and he took his teenage daughter Violet, an aspiring guitarist, under his wing and encouraged her to play on the album.
When Greta sees Dave accept an award on TV, she criticizes him for selling out to the music industry, and with Steve’s help, she expresses her displeasure in a song recorded on her voicemail. A contrite Dave, back in New York promoting his new album, answers her call and asks to see her. After some thought, he decides to meet her and they critique each other’s albums.
Greta thinks Dave’s version of “Lost Stars” is too commercial (a love song he wrote and composed for her as a Christmas present), and believes the song’s true meaning has been lost. He tells her that the audience loves his performance and their enthusiasm fills the room. She believes music is about sharing with people, but Greta insists that’s not what she wanted for the song. However, Dave invited him to come to the Gramercy Theater that week to hear the song so he could see how his fans would react to it.

When the album was finished, Dan and Greta met again with Saul, who was very impressed with their collaboration. He demands that Saul give Dan his job back and gives him a bigger chunk of the contract. They leave without reaching an agreement, but Dan is confident that Saul will eventually sign with Greta. Later, after receiving a text message from Dave reminding her about his concert and being very focused, Greta comes to the concert hall to show Dave the original cover of her song.
Watching him play, Greta is happy to hear them sing at first, but when the audience reaches the climax, she realizes that much has changed. As a depressed Dave continues to perform, he leaves the concert and wanders around the city with a new sense of hope and closure.
Greta then visits Danny at his apartment as he prepares to return home after making money with his wife. He tells her that he doesn’t want her to release his album, preferring instead to distribute it online for $1. Although Dan returns to work with Saul, he agrees to let Greta release the album online and helps her promote the release. The next day, Saul jokingly fires Dan to promote the Greater album and reveals that it sold 10,000 copies on its first day of release.
Beginning Again marked actress Keira Knightley’s first singing role and singer Adam Levine’s first film role.

Director John Carney laid the groundwork for Begin Again years ago when he began writing the script in 2010.
And from his impressions of record label artists and A&R executives in the 1990s, which formed the basis of Dan’s character.
Carney wrote the script, originally titled Can a Song Save Your Life?, before GL Hansard and Greg Alexander began writing the lyrics; He wanted to “work the music around the story, not the other way around”.
The script’s style of presenting songs as natural elements of the story was inspired by Judy Garland’s 1954 musical A Star Is Born and was also used in Carney’s previous film Once Upon a Time (2007).

Before casting Keira Knightley as Greta, Carney considered casting a pop singer like Adele in the lead role, along with several other actresses, including Scarlett Johansson, who was also attached to the project at one point.
Knightley, who had never sung professionally before, prepared for the role by training with a vocal coach and learning to play the guitar.
Singer Adam Levine was the only person to consider Carney for the role of Dave, and won the role after speaking with Carney on Skype and recording some dialogue as an audition;

Although she had previous small roles on television, Beginning Again marked her first film role.
Carney approached James Corde about acting in the film after admiring Corde’s performance in the lead role in the Broadway production of One Man, Two Governors.
Carney chose to film little-known Manhattan neighborhoods that would be more recognizable to locals than tourists. Specific locations included Greywich Village, East Village, Times Square and Washington Square Park.
Instead of performing live on set, the actors sang along to pre-recorded tracks. To save money on hiring a full crew and extras, some scenes, including one in Times Square, were shot late at night with a hand-held camera.

In a series of interviews to promote her film Sing Street in 2016, Carney repeatedly criticized Knightley’s acting and performance on the set of Start Again. Asked by The Independent about the critical response to Singh Street, Carney said without prompting that “It’s a small personal film without Keira Knightley in it. It’s really rewarding.”
In the same interview, Carnegie repeatedly referred to her as a model, although Knightley has worked professionally as an actress since childhood, saying: “I will never do a movie with supermodels again.” He also criticized her in an interview with Heyuguys.com, saying: “I think with Kira it was like asking her to do something she couldn’t do.”
Although he did not specifically mention Knightley by name, he said in an interview with D of Geek that his desire to do Sing Street came from “the experience of working with the model in my last film”.

Carney later issued a public apology on Twitter, saying he felt like a “total idiot” and saying Knightley had been “nothing but professional and dedicated” while filming the film.
In 2019, when asked about Carney’s comments, Knightley accepted his apology and revealed that he was not shocked by her earlier statements while not on set.
The soundtrack was released in the United States on July 1, 2014 by Greg Alexander’s ALXNDR record label, Levine’s 222 Records, Polydor Records and Interscope Records.
Alexander wrote most of the film’s music, along with Daniel Brisboys, Nick Lashley, Rick Nowells and Nick Southwood. Some songs were written and composed by Gl Hansard and Carney, and most were performed by Knightley and Levine. The Walls’ track “Draining Pool”, played during the opening credits sequence, was not included on the soundtrack album.
