This is still well above the premium average for the country’s most popular car which comes in at £417 – £294 less for young drivers.
The Citroën C1 was the cheapest car to insure for drivers aged 17 to 19.
Those aged 20 and over pay an average of 51 per cent less to insure the same car at £347.

Money Supermarket analyzed more than one million quotes made by its customers between 9 June 2020 and 9 June 2021 to identify the most popular car and vehicle insurance rates with drivers aged 17 to 19 for the first time
It is revealed that the Citroën C1 is the cheapest car to insure for young drivers, however, the annual cost of £506 is still 72 per cent more expensive than 20-year-olds at an average of £294.
The second cheapest Fiat 500 Pop cost £509 and the Fiat 500 Lounge cost £519.
Again, these cars were found to be 60 and 71 percent, respectively, more expensive than drivers over 20 years old.

Car insurance premiums are often higher for drivers who have recently passed their test because insurers share more risk with them.

With young drivers trying to decide which car can save them the most money, Marmalade has revealed the nine best cars for insurance premiums.
The Peugeot 107 tops the list of cars with the lowest insurance premiums. It costs an average of £1,114 for a 12-month policy for 17-24-year-olds – although prices can drop to £740 for a 17-year-old.
