It opens with Kale (Shia LeBeouf) losing her father in a horrific accident. This event derails our hero, and after attacking his Spanish teacher in class, he is placed under house arrest and forced to wear an ankle monitor at all times. Kale’s mother confiscates the TV, game console, and pretty much anything else that can help pass the time. Bored and homesick, like James Stewart in the film that inspired this film, Kyle begins spying on his neighbors and falls in love with the new girl in town, Ashley (Sarah Romer). More disturbingly, another neighbor (David Morse) seems to fit the description of a serial killer mentioned in the news.
Disturbia’ Turns 10
The script was actually written in the 1990s, but the studio let the opportunity lapse after hearing about the remake.
With Christopher Reeve the project was revived in 2004, rewritten and resold. Executive producer Steven Spielberg pushed hard for the role of LaBeouf, and director DJ Caruso put the actor in front of him.
Spielberg was sued by DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures for using the source without permission, but a federal judge dismissed the case for very different tones.
It’s very young for its time (it ends with the phrase “Soon to be the most popular video on YouTube,” a phrase that might also be found in a Perez Hilton blog post from 2007), and it oozes comedy. Much more than inspiration

It’s no masterpiece, but it’s a smart and exciting tribute to one of the best films ever made, bolstered by smart performances throughout, especially from Morse. The actor refused to speak to any of the teen actors until after filming, and his commitment to the method paid off with a truly chilling turn that elevates some of the more well-worn material.

The mid-teens remake of Rear Window starts off surprisingly well with an effective car crash scene, but eventually loses its way as it heads into generic thriller territory.
A lovable Shia LaBeouf plays Kale, who is expelled from school and sentenced to house arrest for beating up her Spanish teacher.
Gentle comedy ensues, as Calle tests the limits of her ankle bracelet and seeks out new neighbor Ashley (Sarah Romer), her boredom with her situation honestly portrayed.

Soon he begins to suspect that his neighbor Mr. Turner (David Morse) is a serial killer and instead of informing the police, he enlists the help of Ashley and his friend Ronnie (Aaron Yu) to solve the crime.
Director D. J. Caruso directs efficiently, but the script lets him down. This is a situation that could only happen in the movies (and has happened many times before) and we all know where things are going.
There is no doubt about Mr. Turner’s guilt, and the characters’ actions are never believable: in particular, his reluctance to go to the police, even after Turner harasses and assaults Ashley in the parking lot.
Carrie-Anne Moss is good as Kyle’s mother, although one wishes she would play more substantial roles after years of playing housewife/mother roles.
Is Movie ‘disturbia 2007’ Streaming On Netflix?
All in all, a watchable but extremely minor league thriller that only suffers in comparison to the Hitchcock film it emulates.
