In this series of steps we will discuss the general position of the face profile and learn some basic calculations that you can use to make sure they have your face in the right place.
Many people make mistakes when drawing shapes because they do not fully understand the shape, estimates refer to the relationship of size and location between objects.
Draw Face Step By Step
There are many formulas that can be adjusted to draw the face in the right place. There is a simple method – one that I have learned before and it is good for beginners. Then there is the more difficult way to use the model, the guidance of Andrew Loomis.

We will first discuss the Loomis method, which is more difficult but more accurate. If you find this method a little difficult for you, you can skip to the better method at the bottom of the page. Remember, no matter what the method, the goal is to create a believable image of the face, so whatever you do is good.
First we draw a circle with two intersecting lines that intersect perpendicular to the center. The circle represents the top of the head. We use the intersection line to locate the feature.
We will then draw a square that touches each corner of the circle. This square will represent the edge of the face later. The top line will be the bottom line. The bottom line will be the nose line and the center line will be the forehead line.
So we will measure the distance from the center line to the bottom line. You can use a pencil to do this task. From the bottom line of the square, use this gauge to mark the position of the bottom of the chin. Then draw the edge of the jaw from each corner of the square to attach to the area you marked.

We now have the basic structure of the shape of the face in place. Next we will look at the eyes. We can use the height of the head to help determine the position of the eyes on the face. The eyes are usually found on a line in the center of the head.
The line of the forehead is represented by the center line we drew in the first step. We now know that the eye should be found below this line in the center of the head. We can draw a line here for the “eye line”.
Now we know where our eyes are on the face, we can draw it. There is another measure to keep in mind. We also need to think about the width of the eyes. The width of the head from ear to ear is usually measured by the length of the “eye” arm. This means that if we want to draw the eye in the right proportions, then we have to draw it to fit this formula.

Move the face down, then draw the nose. The lower part of the nose can be found at the bottom of the square we drew in the second step. The width of the nose varies from person to person, but is usually as wide as the inner corner of the eye.
It may be helpful to draw two light lines down from the inner corner of the eye to help you find the width of the nose.
We find the mouth more than halfway between the base of the nose and the chin. Of course, this measure varies from person to person. We can draw lines to mark the position of the mouth.
We can use the eyes to help us determine the width of the mouth. The corners of the mouth usually correspond to the inner corners of the pupil. It may help to draw a light line from the student to the “mouth line”.

Next we will draw the ears. Here, too, we can use the position of the face to help us determine the position of the ears. The upper part of the ear usually meets the forehead line, while the lower part of the ear meets the nasal line.
Remember the ears protrude from the head and extend slightly upwards. This means that the ears will extend from the head to near the eye line.

Now we are going to paint the hair. If you are painting with long hair on the forehead, the hair may not be visible, but it is important to know where it is. The hairline is found at the top of the square that we drew in the second step.

Now that we have the hairline, we can draw the hair. Short hair tends to extend slightly from the top of the head, while long or curly hair may extend slightly. However, in both cases the hair is far from the head and should not be pulled directly over the head.
Now we need to add a neck to our floating head. The tendency of many beginning artists is to make their necks too small. Usually down from the bottom of the ear. Women’s necks are smaller while men’s necks are larger.

If you want to draw shapes from the side or profile, these same dimensions are applied. We will just change the position of the face, arranged on the side of the head.
How To Draw Cartoon Faces
In fact, we can start the process the same way – starting with circles and intersecting lines.
We will start the same way we did before by drawing two intersecting lines and squares that connect the circles at all Corners.
Here again, the top line of our square will be the hair. The center line will be the forehead line and the bottom line will be the nose line.
Next we will mark the position of the bottom of the chin. We can measure the distance from the center of the square to the bottom and use this measure to mark the bottom of the chin.

With the markers in place for the chin, we draw the front of the face. In this case, our subject is facing left, so we will draw a horizontal line down from the top of the head to the bottom of the chin.
Next we will draw a line from the bottom of the chin to the center at the bottom of the square. This line represents the chin. This line will be slightly curved in most cases.
We will now measure in the center of the head and place a line to represent the eye line. Again, this line should be drawn below the forehead line.
We can also use the circle we drew at the bottom of the square to draw the back of the head. Consider the structure of the skull here as you write this line.
How To Draw A Cow Face
Now that we have an idea of the location of the features, we can draw them using grid lines. We will also add shading here to show the face profile.
Notice how the eyes are drawn from the front of the face and how the lips and mouth project diagonally toward the neck.
We can use the center line, the nose line and our eye line to draw the ears to one side of the face. Since our subject faces left, most of the ears will be found on the right side of our midline.
As we discussed earlier, the line drawn for the ears will start at the eye line, extend to the forehead line, and then down, touching the nose line.

We will also go ahead and draw a contour line for the outside of the hair and some lines for the neck in this step.
We will keep the hairstyle as it was in the first picture and draw the hairline. In this case, the line extends to the back before descending to the ear.
