The stitch used in this quilt pattern is called Reverse Quilt Stitch. This is similar to Suzette crochet stitch, except you add 1 extra double crochet and reverse it.

As a beginner, I usually recommend #4 worsted weight yarn or heavy weight yarn. Chunky weight yarn will take longer to finish than heavy weight yarn.
For this pattern I used Michaels Loops & Thread Crème Cotton Yarn. This is a #4 spun cotton thread that works well. It’s super soft and reminds me of Lion Rasa yarn like Butta.
If you decide to use a different thread, check your gauge. This pattern is very forgiving, although any four-count yarn will work for this pattern.
