Friday The 13th New Movies – Director Sean Cunningham teases a new Friday the 13th movie in 2023 Evidence is slowly accumulating that a new Friday the 13th movie has finally come to us.
It’s been a very, very long time since our friend (although not quite the fancied teen friend hanging around the lakes) Jason Voorhees made his homage to the silver screen. The last time the Friday the 13th movie was released was over a decade ago, in 2009. In other words, we’ll get that Avatar sequel before we get another movie with Jason in it. But there is hope! Evidence is starting to pile up that a new entry in the franchise is approaching, and the latest clue comes from director Sean Cunningham.
Friday The 13th New Movies
For those who may not know, Cunningham directed the original 1980 classic Slasher that started it all. Now, as the folks at Bloody Disgusting have noted, the director has added an interesting update to his Cameo page that reads, “Directed by Sean S. The movie has produced 12 episodes and Episode 13 is scheduled for next year. Holy crap, what?
Every Friday The 13th Movie, In Order
Before we get ahead of ourselves, we should mention that nothing has been confirmed by any studio or anyone else who may have been involved with the alleged production. What we do know for sure is that Cunningham has been embroiled in a messy legal battle with original screenwriter Victor Miller for years over the rights to the franchise. This is what kept potential films from moving forward. Although it was beginning to look like the legal battle had been settled once and for all, or that Cunningham and Miller had somehow settled.
Aside from this interesting post on Cameo suggesting that 2023 could be the year Jason rises from the dead, we’ve recently heard from producer Roy Lee, who has been linked to a new Friday the 13th movie for a while now. Interestingly, Lee also mentioned that “we might hear something by the end of the year” about a new entry in the series. This quote, combined with Cunningham’s Cameo bio, points us in a promising direction.
The thirteen movies were made in eight Fridays between 1980 and 1989. It got more and more sporadic from there, with Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason was produced and remade between 1993 and 2009. But this is the longest we’ve been without a movie in the series. And there must be an appetite for something like that, given how successful recent Halloween movies have become, not to mention Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix or Chucky on Syfy.
We don’t want to give anyone any undue hope, but the Friday the 13th movie arriving in 2023 sounds pretty good, right? And it is not for nothing that October 13, 2023 will be a Friday. Is it fate? Is it fate? We’ll see!
