Goodwill Outlet By The Pound Near Me – When it comes to thrift stores, there isn’t much that compares to Goodwill Outlets. For both the good and the bad (disgusting, in fact).
The thrill of finding amazing stuff at a great price, the competition from a dozen other crazy business people, and the potential to flip your find for a healthy profit.

But even if you’re not a retailer, the bin can be a fun way to spend an afternoon. We’ve seen people find Gucci, Supreme, Patagonia and all the other luxury brands at Goodwill Outlets. The problem is that they are hard to find!

We knew every thrift store within 45 minutes of us, but when a Goodwill Outlet opened in our state, it would only be months before we knew about it.
To address that, we’ve put together this list of Goodwill store locators that will tell you the location of every Goodwill store we can find, state by state. Plus lots of tips to help you succeed once you finally get there!
If you can’t find a Goodwill Outlet near you, don’t despair, there probably still is. Since Goodwill Outlet has several different names (Goodwill Clearance Center, Goodwill Auction House, etc.) there may still be one.
The best thing to do is to call the most central Goodwill location in your area and simply ask. They should be able to tell you if someone is nearby.

However, if there isn’t a Goodwill outlet near you, it’s best to visit your nearest thrift store.
Since we sell on eBay full time, it’s worth going to a different Goodwill outlet, but for most people, it’s not. Save what you have and what until a Goodwill Outlet opens near you!
The first time you visit a Goodwill Outlet, the experience can range from fun and enjoyable to a little disconcerting.
On my first trip, I found shoes full of dirt. I say this not to discourage you, but to put you on your guard. You never know what you’ll find.
How To Shop Goodwill Outlets
Although there are clean and well-run outlets, most are located in warehouses located in commercial areas. That’s why most Outlets tend to be a bit dirty and the facilities are limited. No Goodwill Outlet washes or cleans the items they receive (Goodwill doesn’t wash clothes either, so not too surprising)
There are usually one or two rooms with large (usually blue) wheelie bins stacked with “stuff”.
You can simply dig through the trash and add whatever you want to your bag or cart (assuming you have a cart).
You have to expect a lot of people wearing gloves and wanting to trade. When new inventory is released, I keep my distance. People literally run around the room looking for new items and throw away anything they don’t want.
What The Heck Are
The best method, in my opinion, to visit a Goodwill Outlet for the first time is to slow down and take it all in. Go where there are no people and make your way through some trash cans. You’ll get a good idea of the type of item being sold and see how it works.
One of the most attractive things about Goodwill Bins is that everything is sold cheap and you pay in pounds. This (usually) works to the buyer’s advantage.
Just dig through the trash, find what you want, weigh your stuff, and pay for what you have.
However, how the set of Goodwill Outlets works is still a mystery. Or it would be more correct to say that since each Outlet is different, it is difficult to determine exactly what you will receive and what you will find.

However, there are a few things I can tell you that seem to be generally true.
Once the inventory goes to the back of the room, it is roughly organized into large bins with similar items.
This container rotates approximately every 15 minutes. This means that the workers will release 4-6 new containers and exchange a part. The swapped containers were brought to the rear. In retrospect, they can be added or left until they return.
When I go to the trash, I grab a bottle of water (or coffee, whatever), gloves, a mask, and a snack. You want to be prepared to spend time there and get the most out of your trip.

While gloves are not strictly necessary, I highly recommend them. The items can be very dirty and even dangerous. Before I started using gloves every time I had a few splinters and small punctures from digging through random detritus.
You should check with a Goodwill outlet near you (or call) to check, but many don’t even have carts for people!
The one closest to me has about 20 carts so you have to line up when they open to get them.
To save yourself from having to carry all your stuff, I recommend bringing a large bag. I took an Ikea bag with a zipper. It’s large, very light, zips closed and has a backpack strap. Even if I get the cart, I keep the bag in the cart. This allows you to put things you know you will buy in your bag and protect them from cart thieves.

Many people throw things in the trash in anger, assuming that nothing has value, and move on to the next thing. I regularly follow up on people and discover the great things they left behind. The key is to be patient and look at each item.
One of my best finds was a Louis Vuitton wallet sitting at the bottom of a trash can that had been taken by a dozen other people.
The secret to success at Bins is the same as any thrift store: spend a lot of time there. Many retailers who make six figures a year on eBay and Mercari could spend a full eight hours at the junkyard and only take home a dozen or so items.
The more time you spend in the Outlet, the more paper rotations you will go through and the more new things you will see. If we’re serious about inventory, we usually spend the morning digging through the trash, take a break for lunch, and come back for a few hours in the afternoon.

Most of the people at the Goodwill Outlet are jerks. Or at least a lot of people. Don’t be one of them.
This is not just a plea to humanity. Being kind helps me a lot. I’ve had several people bring me beautiful things they found but didn’t want. Also, if you even find a shoe (or part of something you want), it helps to be nice to people when you start asking around to see if anyone has found another shoe.
Assuming you can find a Goodwill Outlet near you, this can be a useful and money-saving way to spend a day. Not to mention a lot of fun!
While the container isn’t for everyone, most people I take it to have found at least a few things they like!

Tips For Making The Most Of Your Visit To “the Bins” (a.k.a. The Goodwill Outlet Stores)
For thrift shoppers like Jen Meenely, a local college student, the store brings new joy when it comes to scoring high marks on luxury items and vintage sporting goods.
“My top notes are the Burberry boots, a pair of Tory Burch boots and a Hermes scarf, such an amazing item,” said Meenely, who is also a TooCheapBlondes blogger.
“Jeans, rockets, stars, anything catches my eye,” says shopper Josh Garcia. “It’s always fun to look through trash and find treasures.”
Everything in the store is priced by the pound. Shoppers paid $2.19 per pound for clothing and $1.19 per pound for glassware, tableware, electronics and books. I was skeptical when I heard that there were places where Goodwill sold clothes by the pound. How could this be possible or desirable?
