Gretel And Hansel Part 2 – Hansel and Gretel, the heroic duo, once again embark on the deadly task of executing a witch. The first film began with a fairy-tale touch, showing Hansel and Juliska being abandoned by their father in the forest. After that, they go to a gingerbread house. There the cannibal witch captures the brothers.

From then until now they are classic witch hunters who have executed hundreds of witches. Recently, the film was in news for its upcoming sequel. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

The first film was directed by Tommy Wirkola and was released on January 25, 2013. It was rated in the action and horror genres. The film stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel and Gretel. Other actors include Famke Jansen, Peter Stormar, Thomas Mann, Pihla Vitala and Derek Mears in supporting roles.

The first sequel to the film was originally released in 2016. Apparently, the film failed to release at the time. However, there were speculations about the release of the film next year, 2021.

In 2014, it was rumored that Wirkola might not continue to direct the film and that Jeremy Renner would not continue to star in the film. New people who are not yet registered are not announced. We’re not even sure if Gemma Arterton has agreed to play the female lead in the film. There has also been talk that Paramount is more interested in developing a TV series based on the adventures of the witch-hunting duo, and that has a better chance than a sequel.

Contrary to the above facts, in recent years Virkola has shared a trailer for the film, mentioning how elements of voodoo will be included in it.

Although Hansel and Gretel was not a hit show, it still managed to cross the $226 million mark and gather a decent audience for its premiere. Which leads to Paramount Pictures’ deal for the next installment.

Director Virkola even wrote a script for the sequel, which included some “pretty crazy” ideas for the second film. McKay also stated that “this might be one of those cases where the sequel goes further than the first. Think about the different types of witchcraft.’

In the absence of a release date and trailer, it may be a while before we see the second installment in theaters. You just tried to add this video to my list. However, you must first sign in with one of the following services.

Case Study 0030.02: Hansel Vs Gretel (part 2)

Hansel and Gretel is one of the most famous fairy tales in the Western world, and it also features one of the most notorious witches. In this episode, you’ll learn about the witch trials in Germany, the role of hunger and poverty in creating monsters, and how the Brothers Grimm developed the oral tradition into legendary tales. The true story of Hansel and Gretel is even scarier than you think.

[CLASSICAL MUSIC] WOMAN: Fairy tales – we grow up on them, fantastic stories told to us as children, with a moral or lesson at the end.

The trope of the evil old lady stalking victims in a creepy cabin in the woods is common, even outside of the fairy tale genre.

GIRL: [SCREAMING] WOMAN: The gingerbread house, baking children in the oven, craving human flesh, a secluded place in the woods – although witches have been associated with these qualities before, until the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm wrote it all down, how is made this legendary monster.

So, to truly understand the origins of one of today’s most famous stories, we need to look further into the history of the witch trials and famine in Germany that forced people to make very desperate decisions.

The original story of Hansel and Gretel was first published in Germany in 1812, with the first English translation in 1884.

It tells the story of two brothers, a boy and a girl, whose family has nothing to eat.

Their father, a poor logger, is convinced by their mother to leave the children deep in the forest to starve.

His philosophy is that it would be better for them to be killed by wild animals than to see them starve.

The next morning, when his parents lead the brothers deep into the forest, Hansel secretly leaves a trail of white pebbles back to their house.

Hansel and Gretel are told to start a fire, and their parents return with more wood.

Fortunately, the moon shines brightly, and the brothers follow the gravel path home, to their father’s happiness and their mother’s dismay.

This time, Hansel uses a piece of bread to make another path through the forest as their parents lead them deeper into the dense forest for the second time.

After three days of wandering in the forest, they come across a small house built entirely of bread and cakes.

Hungry Hansel and Juliska start eating snacks from home when they are startled by a little old woman who takes them and serves them milk, fruit and sweets.

It turns out that the old woman is an evil witch who built her house to lure children to kill and eat them.

When the children wake up, she throws Hansel into a small chicken coop and forces Gretel to do chores, including feeding her brother to fatten him up for slaughter.

Hansel manages to prolong his death by pulling out a chicken bone for the witch to feel when checking his thickness.

After four weeks, the witch tells Gretel to check that the bread is baking in the oven, secretly intending to push the child and bake it.

Well, first, an 1810 manuscript written by Jakob and Wilhelm created a version of the Hansel and Gretel story from the story of Dortchen Wilde, who would eventually become Wilhelm’s wife.

Although Dortchen grew up in Germany, she was of French descent, which may explain why the story bears many similarities to Charles Perrault’s 17th-century French story Le Petit Poucet.

The story depicts a poor woodcutter who cannot feed his children, so he and his wife abandon them despite their protests.

The youngest of the children saves himself and his siblings from the forest, once with pebbles and again with breadcrumbs.

What I’m really interested in is how the stories differ – the change of a male ogre into a female witch.

Hansel And Gretel

I have a few theories, but first we need to deal with the story element that starts it all – the unwilling abandonment of one’s own children.

The Brothers Grimm were born in 1785 and 1786, so they may have felt or seen the lingering effects of these losses, or at least met older people who experienced these events in their folklore interviews.

One of the realities of famine at the time was that children could be abandoned or even killed because there wasn’t enough food to go around.

Some tried to justify these deaths, believing that they contributed to the survival of the family as a whole.

Hansel & Gretel

It could be argued that the story of Hansel and Gretel served to rationalize such dramatic, horrific measures.

In the second half of the 18th century in Germany, mothers were forbidden from announcing their pregnancy.

Court records of infanticide trials during this time point to poverty, fear of punishment, and fear of social disgrace as primary motives.

Interestingly, although both fathers and mothers can be charged with murdering their children, only mothers are charged with infanticide.

All this historical context may explain why in the 1812 Grimm story it is the mother who insists on abandoning the children.

These ghostly creatures were usually described as large, hairy men with a sack full of children that they greedily stuffed into their mouths as a surefire way to keep the children obedient.

The female version of the monster resembled the stereotypical witch, an old hunchback with a hooked nose and disheveled hair.

Perhaps because of this, when people were accused of witchcraft in Germany, they were often accused of kidnapping and eating children.

Star Trek’s Borg Queen Helps A New Version Of Hansel & Gretel Get Even More Twisted

During my research, I came across a series of German witch trials in the 16th century where 35 suspected witches were convicted.

From what I have found, the Brothers Grimm were the first to write this in a witch story.

The house has evolved over time and become iconic, mainly due to the operatic interpretation of Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy tale, which was first performed in December 1893.
