How Can I Learn To Ride A Motorcycle – Even though I knew I wanted to ride a motorcycle from the moment I let go of the clutch for the first time, I was easily overwhelmed and often scared. On my first day in motorcycle class, I fell off my bike half a dozen times.
Of course, I overcame my fear and learned to drive. Since then, I have met many new riders who are like me: they take a long time to learn to ride, but it is difficult to acquire the basic skills.

Although the idea that different people have different “learning styles” is a myth, I think some people have an easier time learning physical skills. For these people, a skill like learning to drive easily “makes sense.”
For some (myself included), this knowledge does not come easily. I was really feeling rude. I was always bruised, I avoided all kinds of sports, and even after years of dance lessons I still had a hard time finding new choreography.
However, learning to ride a motorcycle taught me that my body is capable of much more than I gave myself up to. I just had to find the right way to learn.
As far as I’m concerned, anyone of sound mind and body can learn how to ride, even if they struggle the first (or second) time on a bike. All you need is dedication and patience to learn one step at a time.

However, when I started learning to ride a scooter, a new world opened up for me. The scooter’s light weight and simple controls allowed me to focus on learning the physics of two wheels. Once I learned to balance, I went out and learned how to be a two wheeler on the road.
After getting comfortable with my scooter in a variety of situations, it was easy for me to add the final piece of the puzzle: riding the controls.
My journey to learning to ride was unusual, but it worked for me. And, I’m glad he did, because it showed me that there is more than one way to learn to drive.
The important thing is not to focus on the motorcycle itself, but to be more comfortable with how riding a motorcycle feels. The more time you give your brain to adjust to each new sensation, the easier it will be for you to learn the next skill.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Riding A Motorcycle
In fact, research has shown that learning new skills in a different way (and giving yourself time to consolidate those memories) can help you acquire new physical skills faster.
If you are struggling to learn to ride a full motorcycle, I challenge you to make the problem easier. Maybe try a light motorcycle, and ride it around the parking lot in first gear only. Or put your hands on the scooter and exercise on it for a while.
But you can go even simpler than that. You can practice on the bike, observing how it moves in response to your inputs. Even visualization can help: studies have found that seeing yourself doing something can help encourage your mind to do it.
Whatever you choose, remember that the goal is to find challenges that are achievable. If you push yourself too hard, you’ll end up where you started: anxious and frustrated. But if you take it slow and steady, you’ll be riding effortlessly before you know it.

The first few months of learning to ride are the most dangerous time in your driving career. So remember, you are playing the long game. The goal is not to get up and run on the bike as fast as possible, but to make sure you can stay on the road for as long as possible.
Even after you have mastered the basics on a motorcycle, there will always be room for growth. It’s tempting to think that once you’re comfortable on the road, you’re done learning. But the skills you need to drive defensively go beyond the skills you need on a simple trip to the grocery store.
So, while it may feel like your goal is to be comfortable on a motorcycle, it’s actually a controlling part of your ride. Learning to ride is a lifelong endeavor, and by keeping this in mind from the start you will set yourself up for a long and happy career.

Why these rules? It’s pretty simple, and it all comes down to how these two different engines deliver power. In general, an Inline-four engine starts out slow, but once you hit a certain RPM range, the amount of power they produce increases A LOT! This can be very difficult for a new rider to handle.

Suddenly when you were only planning to go 30 or 40 miles an hour you are now doing 120mph without even meaning to. You don’t want to rush suddenly when driving in a school zone.
This issue of unexpected power with the Inline-4 is compounded by the fact that the motorcycle’s throttle is on the handlebars. This means that the thing that drives the motorcycle is the same thing that controls how fast it goes. If you go over a bump and have to adjust your seat or adjust the handlebars unexpectedly, you might as well give the bike more traction without thinking. Combine unstable driving conditions with unexpected power surges and you have a recipe for an accident.
