How To Draw Realistic Portraits With Colored Pencils

My name is Veronica Winters. I am a Russian-American visual artist, writer, teacher and creator of this portrait painting tutorial.
Unit One: Although not a human anatomy class, this lesson provides a brief introduction to facial features, proportions, and values.
Unit Two: This unit provides students with advice on modeling and photography, as well as how to create written artwork and select art materials for projects.

Section Three: This is the largest section that contains several 1-hour portrait drawing lessons with colored pencils. Although the two shows don’t have downloadable links (for privacy reasons), these video tutorials are comprehensive and show lots of tips and tricks on how to approach realistic and interesting portraits with colored pencil on colored and white paper. They also include a materials section at the beginning of each video. Please watch a preview of one of the videos to get a good idea of the structure of each lesson.
This class is for serious beginners in portrait painting, but not for absolute beginners in painting. You should have some basic drawing skills before taking this course. The soft shade and subtle color of the skin tone is gradually built up in layers to form a radiant complexion.
Choose a darker flesh tone, perhaps burnt sienna or burnt wood, to start building the shaded body tones.
Once you’ve created your initial shadow areas, you’ll have something to relate to and compare to your subject.

To balance out the flesh tones, also focus on lighter areas that give the skin a natural glow.
Our skin is a living organism whose color changes subtly in response to emotional and environmental factors. The reason for this is the movement of blood under the surface, which temporarily changes its color and shade.
