How To Train Your Dragons Dragon
Hiccup Haddock introduces himself to the reader saying that he is the first Viking to befriend the Night Fury. He then tells the reader how each of his friends was paired with their own dragon: Astrid Hofferson with Stormfly, Fishlegs Ingerman with Meatlug, Snotlout Jorgensen with Hookfang, and Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston with Barf and Belch. Hiccup boasts that the Vikings of Berk have accepted dragons as their friends, making the island the first utopia of dragons and vikings. Hiccup explains that the Vikings began studying dragons and discovering new species, believing they had seen them all. However, they were wrong, as Hiccup told the reader that the latest discoveries were the Crimson Goregutter and the Hobgobbler that the Dragon Riders encountered during the mission. Hiccup explains that some people outside of Berk still hunt and kill dragons, such as the terrifying Grimmel Macabre. The hunter uses his own dragons, deathgrippers, whose venom is strong enough to calm or kill dragons. To capture Toothless, Grimmel uses a female Bright Fury as bait, but the plan fails and the two dragons begin to bond. Hiccup then explains the Light Fury’s ability to disappear. Since Grimmel knew Berk’s location, Hiccup decided to leave the island and go in search of the Hidden World, the legendary home of all dragons. Hiccup soon learns that the Bright Fury is following them, so he makes a new tail fin for Toothless so he can fly on his own. Bright Fury took Toothless to the Hidden World and Hiccup and Astrid followed them there. Hiccup then realized that the vikings and dragons had to separate so they could live in peace. Years later, Hiccup visits the Hidden World and learns that Toothless has three children named Nightlights.
