Although far from official, Nintendo Switch 2 rumors are starting to pick up steam. Given that the Nintendo Switch is six years old and based on aging hardware, it’s likely the Japanese gaming giant is working on a replacement console.
Is There Another Nintendo Switch Coming Out
And that console will likely be the Switch 2. Although Nintendo tends to introduce entirely new consoles for home use that build on the features and power of their successors. Or go for something completely new (see the N64 years at GameCube), it got more repetitive with handhelds. So we’re pretty sure that Nintendo’s next big gaming machine will be the Switch 2, even if it’s not a given name.
Nintendo Switch: Everything That Comes In The Box
We’re hoping to see a big boost in power, OLED displays as standard, and the ability to output 4K to rival the best TVs you can buy today.
So with that, here’s what we think we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far, as well as what we’d like to see.
Given that a pair of rumors have recently surfaced hinting and teasing the existence of a Switch 2, we’re cautiously suggesting that a second-gen Switch could arrive within the next 12 months; it will apparently be released at the same time as the PS5 Pro.
While we originally hoped new Nintendo hardware could arrive in 2023, during the company’s annual financial report, Chairman Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that there were no plans to release any hardware in the next year. exercise. That means we shouldn’t expect the Switch 2 until March 2024.
Things We Know So Far About The Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2
That’s disappointing because The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s May 12 launch seems like the perfect time to release new hardware. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to enjoy Link’s latest adventure on the existing Switch console lineup, as a Switch 2 version isn’t coming.
As for the price, the Nintendo Switch OLED retails for $349 / £309 / AU$539. So we’ll hazard a guess and say that the next-gen Switch will be around that price, especially if it uses an OLED display.
We can expect Nintendo to stick with a system-on-chip from Nvidia, perhaps next generations will take the older Tegra X1 chip found in the current Switch. We wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo also gets a custom chipset from Nvidia, given the Switch’s success and reach.
But AMD’s progress, as seen with the Valve Stream Deck, could give Team Red an outside chance to supply silicon for the next-gen Switch. But we always err on the side of Nvidia.
Nintendo Switch Pro: Coming In 2021, Everything We Know So Far
In fact, after vague rumors of a Tegra chip based on Samsubg’s 5 nanometer process node, which was later denied by the original tipster, we have a feeling that the Nintendo Switch 2 will definitely have some form of Nvidia chip at its heart.
It’s hard to guess the potential power or clock speed. But we’d like to hope that Nintendo uses enough CPU and GPU power to deliver a next-gen gaming experience.
There have been rumors of a potential coprocessor chip to reside in the rumored Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch Pro dock. This additional chip will be used to boost the power and video output of the console when docked and connected to a 4K TV. Such a feature would be nice, but the rumors surrounding it have died down.
On the display side, we can see the Switch 2 using an OLED panel, just like the Switch OLED. But I’m hoping the refresh rate boost is good, say taking a 60Hz display and bumping it up to 120Hz; as seen in top phones. There are no rumors to back this up, but we have our sympathies.
Nintendo Switch 2: Rumors And Everything We Know About The Next Console
However, Sharp, who make the current Switch display, said they are working on a new LCD panel for a “new gaming console” – it could be the Switch 2. If that happens, it could be disappointing because the Switch 2 may come with more dated screen tech than the OLED Switch. It’s possible that Sharp is referring to another console that has yet to be announced. But we’re a bit worried that the Switch 2 won’t use an OLED panel as standard.
With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of a Kingdom, there are concerns (at the time of writing) that the current Switch will struggle to maintain a smooth frame rate. The first practical experiences marked moments of uncertainty. So this might be the biggest sign yet that we need a Nintendo Switch 2 sooner rather than later if we expect future games to compete with modern resolutions and graphics.
There are few valuable clues about the features of the Nintendo Switch 2, but we can use some educated guesses.
If the Switch 2 sticks to the same control scheme as the Switch, we’d like to see it improve the Joy-Cons so they suffer less from potential stick drift and have analog triggers for more precise controls like the racing games. A few tweaks to ergonomics – if Nintendo sticks to the basic Switch design – would also be appreciated with the Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch Review: The Best Game Console?
And we’d like to see an improvement in battery life, as the Switch tends to run out of juice within hours when running games like Breath of the Wild. A larger battery would certainly help make this a more viable gaming machine for things like long international flights.
Another feature we’d love to see is improved Wi-Fi connectivity for the Nintendo Switch 2. It might not be the first improvement that comes to mind, but better Wi-Fi can be a Dramatic improvement when it comes to things like streaming games or just loading downloading the game quickly.
One feature we really hope to see in the Nintendo Switch 2 is backwards compatibility, especially given the appetite we’ve seen for such capabilities on the PS5 and Xbox Series X; Hopefully, running older Switch games on newer hardware will result in improved performance and better visual fidelity.
What is somewhat concerning is that a new rumor has claimed that backwards compatibility for Switch games may not be the case for the Switch 2. That would be quite disappointing and would require Nintendo to have a great launch lineup for the next-gen Switch if it wasn’t going to rely on its old library of games and stability.
Nintendo Switch Back At No.1 After Oled Launch
We also think backwards compatibility should be extended to Switch Joy-Cons as well. Backup Joy-Cons can be an expensive addition to the current Switch, so if challenged with the Switch 2 it might be a little disappointing, and hopefully other existing Switch accessories like the Ring Fit Adventure and the external controllers will. also works with Switch 2.
As explained, these Switch 2 rumors are still in their infancy, with little hard and fast information circulating. Nintendo is notoriously tight-lipped about what it’s working on, so we can’t expect to see multiple leaks anytime soon.
But the time is arguably near for a new, more powerful Switch or Nintendo console overall. And the Nintendo Switch 2 could be the answer.

Why Nintendo Switch 2 Could Be a PS5 Killer It’s going to be a long wait, but one that will be worth it.
A New Nintendo Switch Is Reportedly Arriving Next Year
If the rumors are true and there’s another Nintendo Switch in the works, it could mean the downfall of the PlayStation 5 (and Xbox). Let’s explore why the Nintendo Switch 2 could be a game-changer for the industry.
The latest next-gen consoles come from both Sony and Microsoft in the form of the PlayStation 5 and their respective Xbox Series X and S. We haven’t seen or heard anything about the next-gen Switch yet.
In 2018 we were honored with a Nintendo Switch OLED model which had several upgrades and a 7 inch OLED screen and more vibrant colors to boot, we are still waiting for a new Switch from Nintendo. Now that it’s getting closer and closer as Nintendo’s president mentions that they’ll be ending restrictions on new hardware, data miners and insiders are looking for whatever they can on the new system. Luckily, there have been several leaks and rumors regarding what we can expect from the new Nintendo Switch console.
Let’s get one thing straight while we’re at it: everything that’s known about the Nintendo Switch 2 right now is just speculation and hearsay. Unfortunately, nothing has been officially released regarding the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
