The final scene with Nick Fury emerging from the shadows takes on a subtly different meaning after the events of CAPTAIN MARVEL. Set right after AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, ANT-MAN contains subtle references to the destruction in Sokovia. Placing it here in the series allows the fight of Falcon to carry additional weight, bringing Sam closer to the status of the primary character.
The Sokovia arc that began in AVENGERS: ULTRON AGE culminates in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and takes down the Avengers. CIVIL WAR serves as the launching pad for the next batch of Earth-related stories, so they settle nicely after stories. It also continues perfectly from the end credits scene of ANT-MAN.
There may be some controversy over Black Widow’s death after Black Panther, but it’s fitting to put her here, since Natasha Romanoff escaped Minister Ross after turning her back on the Sokovia Accords. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to defeat her, Natasha must deal with her past as a spy and the broken relationships she left behind long before she became an Avenger.
