How To Watch All Marvel Movies And Shows In Chronological Story Order
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Marvel Cinematic Universe is what most people think of when they think of “Marvel movies” or “Marvel shows” these days. These films are a series of live action films that started with Iron Man (2008) and continues to this day. Shows include 2010’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, series like Agent Carter and Disney+ originals like WandaVision and Loki.
Most MCU movies are on Disney Plus, but not all. All the major MCU shows are now on Disney Plus, and new debuts continue. We will look at each of them in more detail below.
Marvel, but not the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney has begun bringing non-MCU Marvel content to Disney Plus.
Before Disney bought Marvel in 2009, Marvel sold the film rights to many of its characters. The most famous example of this is X-Men, which was sold to 20th Century Fox in 1994. As a result, Disney did not get the rights to these movies when they bought Marvel. Movies in this category include: X-Men, Deadpool, Blade and Fantastic Four.

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, it acquired the rights to many of these characters/films. They added some of that content to Disney Plus, but not all of it. We’ll cover the details below.
A note on the evolving MCU: After Doctor Strange, things are…more?…less?…complicated in the realm of insanity. Basically, Disney has started saying that some of these older “non-MCU” movies are now part of the MCU “multiverse.” I won’t go into it any further now, and if you follow the breakdowns of this post, you’ll still be well served.
For starters, if you don’t know where to start, I’d like to say that you should check out the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. MCU movies are the next part of this post. If for any reason you’re looking for the best, we’re quick to oblige.
There is a caveat to this list – it assumes you haven’t seen the MCU movies. The last two Avengers movies (Infinity War and Endgame) would be on this list, but they won’t be rated until you see the other movies.
Marvel Movies In Order: How To Watch Every Mcu Movie So Far
The first four of these are part of the modern MCU because they have a direct connection to the events we see in the movies.
Agent Carter is an old show (2015-2016). It has important connections to the MCU movies and is a good fit for the main films. But it won’t get new parts anymore.
This is a bit debatable and I haven’t watched nearly 30 Marvel comics on Disney Plus. But mostly based on my childhood nostalgia… Best Marvel Cartoons on Disney Plus:
Okay, almost everyone is here to read about MCU content on Disney Plus, but it’s easy to start by figuring out what non-MCU movies are available on Disney Plus. Disney Plus currently features Marvel characters, but Disney Plus also has other feature films outside of the MCU. They fall under the “Marvel Legacy Movies” category and include: X-Men, X2, X-Men The Last Stand, X-Men Origins Wolverine, X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men Apocalypse, X -Men Dark Phoenix, Fantastic 4 (two versions), Logan, Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and New Mutants.
Marvel Movies In Order: Every Marvel Cinematic Universe (mcu) Movie Releases So Far
So don’t be confused when you watch these movies on Disney Plus. You see them and some form their own mini universe, but they are NOT part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There are no Marvel characters on Disney Plus. In addition, four films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Home will not be available on Disney Plus. Below we discuss how to view them.

How To Watch The Marvel Movies In Order
MCU on Disney Plus. In addition, Disney Plus has several Marvel animated movies and documentaries.
The three released MCU movies have streaming/distribution rights owned by someone other than Disney. Sony has owned the rights to the Spider-Man movies since they bought the rights to Spider-Man in 1999. In the 1990s, Universal bought the rights to distribute the film version of the Hulk character.
As mentioned above, the film rights for many non-MCU characters are scattered among different studios. While Disney has bought back many of these rights, many of them do not have full streaming rights or may currently feel that the films are not suitable for the Disney Plus platform.
Let’s start with the MCU movies. In some chapters, we’ll cover movies outside of the MCU. Most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are on Disney Plus. Here is a list of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

You’ll have to check out the other major streaming/rental services: The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man: Homecoming (coming to Disney+ May 12, 2023), Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Home are great movies and essential to understanding the relationship between Spider-Man and Spider-Man/Iron Man, which is one of the most important movies. In the MCU. . So, if you need to find a way to rent them (like setting up Amazon on your TV), you can add The Incredible Hulk to your rental list for completeness.
I’m a huge finalist, but honestly, you can skip The Incredible Hulk. It’s a great movie, and if you’re trying to watch the entire MCU, it’s worth a rental. Make sure you rent the 2008 Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton and not the 2003 Hulk with Eric Bana.
Also note that Edward Norton has been replaced by Mark Ruffalo, the actor who played Bruce Banner for the rest of the MCU. If you can’t find a way to rent it, I can’t say The Incredible Hulk is essential. But…
Marvel Movies: How Long Does It Take To Watch Every Film & Tv Show?
Watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in the order listed above. These movies are written to tell a story in a certain way. They are not issued in chronological order. For example, Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s, while most of the MCU is set in the present day. Captain America: The First Avenger even takes place during World War II.
But they are not written to be viewed chronologically. Captain Marvel may be the earliest appearance of Nick Fury, but that’s not how the character is introduced. So, watch the movies in the order they were released – in the order listed above.
Marvel One Shots are short films that are home media releases of some of the MCU movies. They are now listed on Disney Plus in their category as well as individual stages.
