The Lord of the Rings began as a sequel to Tobkien’s 1937 novel The Hobbit, but eventually became a larger work. It was written in installments between 1937 and 1949, most of it during World War II to his son, “then, after leaving it to his will, he published it as a trilogy from 1954 to 1955, one volume at a time. and contributors are increasing. It is regarded as one of the most enduring contributions of this century to the literature of the border between youth and age. and adults with great pleasure.” (Eyre, 134-35).
