The 2016 animated comedy about a young Pacific Islander named Moana is getting a live-action remake, “Moana” star Dwayne Johnson revealed in a recorded message on Monday. The announcement was also shared by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the Walt Disney Company shareholder meeting.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to be bringing Moana’s wonderful story to the big screen in live-action,” Johnson said in a statement. “This story is my culture, and this story is a symbol of the warrior’s grace and strength.”

The upcoming film, which is in development, “will celebrate the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman who wants to forge her own path.” Johnson, who voiced Maui in the original film alongside Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, is expected to join the live-action adaptation, although his role has not been confirmed.
