What Our Academics Say “Our SAT results this year were very good, with growth and achievement in reading and writing improving compared to last year, which we believe is a result of incorporating film strategies. Most of it is.” – Roxy Priest, Teacher, Parkview Primary, Leeds. I mean split the last volume of a book series into two movies.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is rescued from her second playground and transported to District 13, where rebels have gathered to start a war against the capital. Katniss’ District 12 home is destroyed but Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) saves some people, including Katniss’ mother (Paula Malcolmson) and sister Prim (Willow Shields).

District 13 is a military district that operates underground because it was almost completely destroyed during the war. The people there live with the necessities of life. Katniss agrees to become the symbol of the rebellion – the Mockingjay – if the captured tributes, including Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), can be rescued and granted immunity as soon as possible.

What attracted me most to this part of the series is the barren look. While I wished for a plusher intern center in the first film, this film’s sparse set is perfectly suited to Area 13. And it’s not just the sets, the characters’ clothing and makeup reflect the region’s military status. Seeing Jennifer Lawrence essentially without makeup… makes her act that much more intense. And not only him. Once again, Julianne Moore took my breath away with her acting. She is perfect as Alma Coyne, leader of District 13. His demeanor shows military toughness and strength, but he is also compassionate.

I think my favorite scene – probably everyone’s favorite – is with the group of teenagers (including Natalie Dormer as Cressida) at the lake. It’s a stark contrast to the underground facility scenes, it’s more relaxed than the jungle setting in The Hunger Games, and then there’s the song that Katniss sings – and it’s great. Jennifer Lawrence has a luscious, raw voice and it fits the situation and the song perfectly.

If there was anything I didn’t like about this movie, I don’t remember it now because there were so many good things to remember, the most important of which was the excellent acting by everyone involved. Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) is a beautiful thing without makeup, stripped of her capitalist behavior and desperate and vulnerable. Philip Seymour Hoffman in his final role as Plutarch Heavensby… The casting in this series is absolutely amazing and makes this movie shine brighter from within, especially since the setting doesn’t.

This movie series keeps getting better with each movie, while with the books, I’ll always think the first movie is the best. It makes a nice contrast – and I will have these wonderful films on DVD. The final book in author Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy – like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Twilight: Breaking Dawn before it – has been distributed. In two movies, including the first Mockingjay episode. After the events of Catching Fire in which she ruins the Games forever, Katniss (Lawrence) is captured by a group of rebels based in District 13 who want to overthrow President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Led by President Quinn (Moore), the rebels – including old friend Gale (Hemsworth) – show Katniss that Snow’s forces have completely destroyed her former home, District 12, and encourage others to ask to be the face of their rebellion. The regions join their fight. Meanwhile, Katniss’ friend and fellow Hunger Games survivor Peeta (Hutcherson) is being held by Snow to use for his own propaganda. While many fans believed that the Mockingjay novel was the most difficult of the three to turn into a film – the one-on-one survival games are pushed aside in favor of rebellion, potential war and talking politics – this actually works well as an interesting drama rather than an explosive one. Action adventure. The heart of the film is, of course, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, and she delivers every scene expertly, whether she’s traumatized by the disaster at Area 12 or defiant while defying Snow. Of course there are flaws, like how much time and energy Katniss spends trying to save and worry about Peeta losing everything, and in one stupid moment everything back to save her sister Bloody Cat. He takes the risk to go. Maggie gets more screen time than PR guru Plutarch (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman), while neither Gale nor Finnick (Sam Claffin) get to do anything (their roles have been disappointingly reduced since the original novel). ), though at least Hemsworth as Gale gets some dialogue after spending the previous two films silently staring dreamily at Katniss. With some charming scenes and excellent performances, it has a lot to recommend it though. Lawrence is once again captivating, and while this episode is more about her growth than any plot development, it’s a well-paced, elegantly directed film that will leave fans itching to see it. That’s how it all ends in Part 2. Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Kid Friendly? Here are our parenting notes… It’s a 12A certificate tape and there are a few.
