“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is a dream come true. This is exactly the sequel to the great movie we’ve been dreaming of. Great on every level. Honestly, it has no real flaws that I can see. Given the inherent difficulties of making such a film, what great value should one place on the film? Writer/director Joss Whedon has done an admirable job of balancing screen time for an expanding and expanding cast.

As for the new characters, I loved what they did with The Vision (Paul Bettany) and how they did it. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) – aka Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are great too. Wanda’s psychic abilities are much more complex and empathetic than I expected. What I love about Wanda is that she physically experiences emotional trauma when she uses certain powers, and we, as the audience, embark on that emotional journey with her. Like pretty much everything else this movie does, it really packs a punch.
Marvel has done a great job making superhero movies about main characters rather than villains. In both team movies, the villain has now stepped up and been phenomenal. Both movies brought real treats. This movie actually comes first in scale and drama, and it’s no small part for a big villain. I feel like Ultron (James Spader) has beaten every bad guy since Darth Vader. Its presence, manipulation, and motivation lead to some of the best action sequences ever filmed. It also makes for an interesting story and outstanding acting, as this great cast is allowed to flex their emotional as well as superhero muscles.
