The film will be the 22nd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with 2008’s “Iron Man.”

Every Avengers Movie In The Mcu, Ranked

If you want to see Endgame but are afraid of the size of the MCU, never fear!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe – or MCU for short – is a common ground for all 22 films featuring comic book characters.

Each one tells its own separate story, but also connects with the other films in the MCU to tell a cohesive story. It’s a technique that Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee also used in his comics.

The MCU is the most successful film of all time, having grossed $18.2bn (£13.7bn) to date.

How To Watch The Marvel Movies In Order

We recommend that you watch the movies chronologically, not in the order they were released.

Handily, in the book Marvel Studios: The First 10 Years, Marvel released an official MCU timeline to help you do just that.

We’ve added movies that have come out since that book came out, and here’s a handy chart to help you organize your Marvel viewing!

Just a geeky note on the diagram. Technically the main events of Ant-Man and the Wasp take place before Infinity War, but we recommend watching it later to fully appreciate the post-credits scenes that follow.

In Which Order Should One Watch All The Marvel Movies And Tv Shows?

In 2007, Marvel emerged from bankruptcy and sold the film rights to some of the company’s most popular characters, the X-Men and Spider-Man.

Marvel still has the heroes that make up the core team of Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America, so the early MCU movies were used to introduce these heroes.

Marvel brought these characters together for the Avengers Assemble crossover movie. You can find a list of all current members of the Avengers here.

The first MCU movie to be released, Iron Man, featured a post-credits scene that was the first mention of Samuel L. Jackson’s super spy Nick Fury in Avengers.

The List: Even More Marvel Movies

Marvel’s plans for the films are arranged in phases, each culminating in an Avengers crossover film.

Avengers Assemble marked the end of Phase 1, and Age of Ultron concluded Phase 2.

Not only does Endgame end Phase III, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also ends the 22-film series that Marvel Studios is now calling the Infinity Saga.

The new title for the first three phases of the MCU tells their epic story that sees the collection of the Infinity Stones (six powerful gems that give their wielders immense power) and their battle against the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin). You can read a complete guide to Infinity Stones here.

The Official Marvel’s Timeline For Mcu Phases 5 And 6

After the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) captured all the Infinity Stones and wiped out half of life with his fingers in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame sees the rest of the Avengers trying to save everyone.

All bets are on who will make it to the final line in Endgame, as it coincides with the end of contracts for some of Marvel’s biggest stars.

Chris Evans (Steve Rogers / Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) have all been widely reported to have terminated their contracts.

Their Marvel co-stars Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romonova / Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton / Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner / Hulk) are also believed to have ended their tenure at the studio.

While a solo Black Widow movie is reportedly in the works, it could be a prequel, so there’s no guarantee that Johansson’s character will survive.

One thing’s for sure, though — no matter what, the endgame story will take time to unfold.

It’s the longest entry in the MCU so far, clocking in at three hours and two minutes. It is the length of the first part of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, An Unexpected Journey (2012).

Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), one of the core team of Avengers, may respond to rumors that he may not make it to Endgame.

According to producer Amy Pascal, “Avengers 4 ends as a story and the movie starts minutes later”.

Tom Holland’s Spidey was one of the many heroes left out of Thanos’ portrayal in Infinity War, but given his pivotal role in the film, we can only hope he’s alive before the game’s end credits roll.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Timeline

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will return for the sequel “at some point in the future”.

We also know that a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie has been confirmed after Disney rehired director James Gunn, but we don’t know which Guardians will return for it. When Infinity War ended, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket and Karen Gillan’s Nebula were the only survivors of the franchise.

Dark Phoenix, played by Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, may be the last appearance of the X-Men outside of the MCU.

You might be wondering why some Marvel characters appear in MCU-related movies.

How To Watch Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie In Chronological Order

Long before Marvel Studios existed, Marvel Entertainment sold the rights to some of its characters to other filmmakers.

Spider-Man sold to Sony. The studio produced a Spider-Man sequel starring Tobey Maguire and soon after rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield as the webslinger.

However, Sony and Marvel have now agreed on a partnership that will allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in MCU films, while Sony retains the rights to the character.

Sony also owned the rights to Ghost Rider, and made two films starring Nicolas Cage, until the rights were returned to Marvel in 2013.

How To Watch Marvel Movies In Order Online

Nicolas Cage is hoping that maybe some strategically placed Ghost Rider branding will encourage Marvel bosses to greenlight a new movie.

The Fantastic Four and X-Men series were sold to 20th Century Fox, although Marvel Studios is expected to regain the rights to both properties this year due to a merger between Disney and Fox. The merger means that Marvel will introduce these characters to the MCU in future films.

It’s unclear what the future holds for this franchise, as the outspoken, pansexual superhero is definitely not the most family-friendly character.

However, the Deadpool movies were a commercial success, and Ryan Reynolds has indicated on social media that he wants the character to have a future with Disney.

Fox also owns the rights to Daredevil, produced a 2003 film starring Ben Affleck and a 2005 spin-off film, Elektra, before the rights reverted to Marvel.

Universal’s Hulk movies and New Line Cinema’s Blade movies are the result of deals made before the rights to those characters reverted to Marvel, and are not part of the MCU.

Clark Gregg is more than happy to see his character resurrected so he can keep cashing those Marvel checks.
