Irish dancing began in the 17th century and was taught by “itinerant teachers” who traveled throughout Ireland to teach the art form. Irish dancing is characterized by a stiff upper body, quick footwork and precise footwork. It’s an incredibly difficult dance form to master, but it’s a lot of fun to try, so dust off your dancing shoes and annoy the neighbors by trying a little Irish jig.
