When the New York Police Department fails to stop a crime wave caused by the Foot Clan, four mutant vigilantes – Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael – step in to save the city. Led by the mutant mice, they take the fight to The Shredder, battling Splinter and their new allies April O’Neill and Casey Jones. The film is very close to the dark feel of the original comics and is a direct adaptation of the comic book story that involves the defeat of the Shredder, from the then released 2010 film. Adapted from the 1987 TV series, such as News Reporter, there are April comics’ uniform red masks and different colored masks of the Turtles.
The film was the second highest-grossing independent film of 1990 worldwide. It was the most successful film in the series until the 2014 reboot. Two sequels followed, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of Oz in 1991 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III in 1993.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Made in three months, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seems to be the most popular version of the movie with fans, perhaps due to its dark mood, emotional story, realistic effects and true-to-life look of the costumes. Fans were treated to a state-of-the-art live-action version of the Turtles, complete with state-of-the-art animatronics and costumes. The creatures in the film were designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop (this was one of Jim Henson’s last projects as he died that year).
At the beginning of the film, April O’Neill is seen making news about the sudden crime wave. According to the news, all kinds of robberies happen suddenly and without warning and without witnesses. Most of the witnesses also pointed out that they only saw the bandit who usually looked like a teenager.
As April leaves the Channel 3 news building, she is attacked by teenagers she sees stealing weapons. Raphael’s vision is then thrown into a street lamp and the four turtles are defeated, arresting the attackers and rescuing April. Then they go back to the sewers when the NYPD comes. During their escape, Rafael forgot to bring his Sai. But April placed the weapon in her secret purse without the police noticing.
The turtles are seen returning home through the sewers as they celebrate their victory. They meet up with Splinter to discuss their first fight on the surface. Splinter gives them battle notes and reminds them of what it means to be a ninja, while Michelangelo orders dinner for his family. Splinter blames him for not paying attention and advises everyone to reflect on the night’s events. But when the boys played the song “Tequila” and began to dance, Michelangelo suggested that “it’s like a meditation”. Rafael, fed up with his brothers’ immaturity, goes to the cinema alone (Critters). After the movie, Raphael sniffs some wallets and intervenes. When I see his, the secret is gone with one look. They escape to a local park where they are beaten by Casey Jones. Before Casey could deliver her final blow, Raphael intervened. The pickpockets take the opportunity to escape, so Casey takes her frustrations out on Raphael, who loses the one-on-one battle. Casey runs off, calling it a fear that makes Raph more angry than defeated, and chases Casey that night. Raphael returns home late at night to run into Splinter. Splinter talks about Raphael’s anger and not separating himself from his brothers.

In the morning, April appeared at her apartment with her boss, Charles Pennington, who told her about the attackers of the previous night. After interviewing NYPD Chief Stearns on TV, Raphael follows him on the subway to find the missing Psy. But Shredder sends several members of the Foot Ninja to silence April. He jumps in and comes to his rescue after Raphael rescues the psi. He then takes April home with the others, but she doesn’t know he’s following him.
When April wakes up, she is told about the Turtles’ past by Splinter. Then he met Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. The foot ninjas following Raphael are seen staring at the turtles’ house. The turtles take April home with pizza and tell jokes. After leaving, they find their house ransacked and Splinter missing. The Turtles are furious and return to April’s house and stay there until they hear more about Splinter.
After April’s boss is denied by Stearns because of her delinquent son, he goes to April’s house and tells her to rest and not push any buttons at Stearns that day. Charles Pennington’s son Danny saw Michelangelo while in his apartment. Back at the eastern warehouse, the Foot’s hideout, he informs Shredder of the turtle’s location.
During her report, April ignored Pennington’s warning and gave Chief Stern another stab. Back at the apartment, Raphael is angry that the Turtles didn’t do anything to save Splinter and goes to the roof to vent his anger. Across another rooftop, Casey Jones sees Raphael in danger, as Raphael jumps to his feet, telling him where they are thanks to Danny Shredder. After returning home, April takes the other Turtles to her antique shop, unaware of Raphael’s plight.
