This follow-up to Tim Burton’s 2010 ‘Alice in Wonderland’ brings back much of the same team (though Burton has stepped down as producer), and the same energetic approach and tons of digital 3D effects. Mia Wasikowska returns as the extraordinarily sensible Alice, having adventures on the high seas since we last saw her (somewhat anachronistically, it’s the 1800s). Now she must fight the male chaos to fulfill her dreams on dry land.

The story has little to do with Lewis Carroll’s novel. Instead, screenwriter Linda Woolverton is aiming for a sequel that serves as a prequel with several flashbacks to the past of the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), and the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). It’s Alice’s job, after looking in the mirror and returning to Underland, to negotiate with a new character, an almost villainous time (Sacha Baron Cohen, in high-camp, slightly mesh form) to get the Hatter to save one who is dying. the heart

The pace of the movie doesn’t give you time to think – blink your eyes and you lose the plot. But there’s enough imagination here to honor the spirit of Carroll’s brilliant storytelling, even if the emotional denouement is of a twenty-first century sort.

Upon entering the Castle of Eternity, Alice discovers the Chronosphere, an object that controls all time in Wonderland.
Through The Looking Glass Ebook By Lewis Carroll, John Tenniel
After Time tells Alice that it is impossible to change the past, she steals the chronosphere and travels back in time shortly after finding the exiled Red Queen in Time’s care. The Red Queen orders Time to follow Alice, who accidentally goes to the Red Queen’s coronation. There, a young Mad Hatter mocks the Red Queen when the royal crown doesn’t fit her unusual head. When her crown breaks, the Red Queen makes a mess, causing her head to swell. Her father deems her unfit to rule and gives the title of queen to her younger sister, the White Queen. Alice learns of an event in both queens’ pasts that causes friction between the two, and she travels back in hopes of changing the character of the Red Queen and preventing the Jabberwocky from killing the Hatter’s family. The young White Queen steals a cake from her mother and eats it. When confronted, their mother lies about eating leaven, which incriminates her sister and forces her to flee the castle in a fit. Alice sees her running against time and thinks it’s an event that warps her mind and personality. She manages to push the clock aside, but the Red Queen trips and still fails to change the past when it hits her head.
Alice meets a weakling who torments her for always taking risks. She travels back to the real world in a nearby mirror, where she wakes up in a mental hospital, diagnosed with female hysteria. With the help of her mother, she returns to Wonderland, where she travels to a Jabberwocky raid and discovers that the Hatter’s family is not dead, but captured by the Red Queen’s Red Knights. Alice returns to the present and finds the Mad Hatter on the brink of death. As Alice tearfully says she believes him, the Hatter wakes up and returns to his normal state. The Wonderlanders go to the Red Queen’s castle and find the Hatter’s family shrunken and trapped in an ant field. The Red Queen captures them and steals Alice’s chronosphere, taking her sister back to the day she lied about the cake. By the time Alice and the Hatter get there, the Red Queen and her past see each other. This creates a time paradox and Wonderland soon turns to rust. Using the chronosphere, Alice and the Hatter race back to the present, where Alice is able to return the chronosphere to its original location. Once the chronosphere stabilizes, Wonderland will return to normal. The Mad Hatter is reunited with his family. The White Queen apologizes to her sister for lying and the two make amends. Alice says goodbye to her friends and returns to the real world where her mother refuses to hand over Alice’s ship to Hamish and the two prepare to circumnavigate the world on behalf of their own party.
