Car Of The Week: 1946 Volkswagen Beetle

I have a ’69 bug that is having a hard time getting it out as I heard my tank expand and contract yesterday and the frequent stuttering indicates the same. I think I found a solution in these posts, but trying to confirm.

My tank looks different from both of these first two pictures as mine has a vent nipple on the driver’s side front of the tank and a “T” on the filler neck.

I can’t see enough of the tank in the pictures above, but both my 68 and 70 have a small vent line in the rear left corner of the tank – opposite the filler neck – so if the car is leaning on either side, it still vents over a significant portion of the tank.

“To solve my venting problem, can’t I do like CedarPointFreak and vent one of the vents on the front tank to the ‘T’, then one to ‘atmosphere’ and one to the ‘T’?” ‘filler neck? (or option 2 would be a cap on a small tank valve and just use it on the filler neck and vent it to atmosphere, but option 1 would work better) For example: (green for filler neck, red atmosphere, blue for tank valve on opposite side of filler neck) [/ quote] Screw the 2 flat end plugs on these tanks, what is it for?
