Where Maleficent (Isobel Molloy) is a young and powerful fairy who lives in an enchanted forest. There, she meets Stephen (Michael Higgins), a young human with whom she develops a strong bond.
After a close childhood friendship, however, they are torn apart when Stefan is driven by his ambitions and Maleficent becomes guardian of the forest. When Maleficent leaves King Henry (Kenneth Cranham) for dead after trying to conquer his house, Henry says he will name anyone who kills Maleficent as his successor.
Accepting this challenge, Stephen (now played by Jackson Beuys) drugs Maleficent (Ella Purnell) and cuts off her wings to present to the king – though he fails to kill her. He becomes king and Maleficent is left to plot her revenge. To keep up with court events, he turns a raven named DeVall (Sam Reilly) into his spy.

Aurora arrives the day before her 16th birthday and tells Maleficent that she wants to move in with her. Telling her of their plans, they reveal to her the curse and Maleficent’s true identity, and Aurora runs to her father’s castle in anger.
There, of course, Aurora falls into a wheel where she stubs her toe and falls asleep. To try to break the curse, Maleficent and Philip enter the castle, where Philip kisses the young princess. However, this does not wake Aurora, and Maleficent feels that her lack of faith in true love is justified. Apologizing to Aurora, she kisses her forehead, which awakens Aurora, through a protective bond. Maleficent now realizes that Aurora is everyone’s true love.

When the pair try to leave, Stefan finds them and throws an iron trap at Maleficent (fairies like her are fatally allergic to metal). However, Aurora then finds Maleficent’s wings and frees them and they fly back to her godmother of love.
