What Is The 2nd Commandment – “Do not make yourself an idol [as an object of worship]… It is everything that attracts and occupies your attention and affection and preoccupation away from Yahweh your Creator and your Savior. Yahshua (Jesus) magnifies their meaning to uphold the commandments when he says, “Whoever comes to me and does not hate his own father, mother and wife, children and brothers, yes, even his own life, cannot be my disciple” ( Luke 14:26). “Whoever wants to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24) He said that whoever, whatever. You love them so much, they can become idols if you value or love them more than you love and obey them.
We must hate the thought or the fact that these things can be more important and detrimental to following Yahshua (Jesus). Hate and be aware that natural worldly loves and attachments can become so strong that they can prevent your affections from fully committing to loving Yahshua and compulsively following Him at all costs. You must come out of all your close ties with the world and the world so that all your affections are for your eternal King and His Kingdom. We cannot be half-hearted. Yahshua (Jesus) sincerely wants it and we should take others lightly compared to Him. And from there radiates true love that will love all members of our family through Him and through Him and for Him. In natural relationships, greater love must be an instrument to help those who speak their truth and embody love to enter Jehovah’s kingdom.
What Is The 2nd Commandment
Let’s use King Josiah (2 Kings chapters 22-23) as an example. 2 Chronicles 34 states: “Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the sight of Jehovah (God), … and did not turn to the right or to the left. …he sought the God of his father David; And in the twelfth year he began to crush all the idols and go through the destruction and devastation of all the countries that prevented his people from seeking and worshiping the Holy One of Israel simply and wholeheartedly.” (See 2 Chronicles 34:1-5, 7). Almighty God This is what King Josiah told us to do. King Josiah was one of the few kings who did what was right in Jehovah’s (God’s) eyes. It was not because of learning, because the book recorded by Moses, Jehovah’s holy teachings were lost after so many years of wicked kings and pagan people. It was in Josiah’s heart to do what was right. Jehovah is drawing the remnant because of what is in their hearts. Josiah was led by the Spirit of truth to seek the God of his ancestors. He was prompted and he realized that idolatry and worldly idols stood in his way. His heart Full of passion; he wanted the God of his father Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob more than anything else. The Word says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13) and “…he is He who rewards those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
The Ten Commandments
It is a matter of the heart. “Therefore circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no more” (Deuteronomy 10:16). Love Jehovah with all your heart, mind, soul and strength – then you will be able to keep His commandments. Josiah’s command exemplifies just this: love Jehovah and have a circumcised, tender-hearted heart, to seek Him diligently. “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace…For if you live according to the flesh you must die; But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your body, you will live For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Romans 8:6, 13, 14).
“There was no king like him before [Josiah] who turned to Jehovah (the Lord) with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his strength…” (2 Kings 23:25). It is like your “good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23) who does my Father’s will and obeys and serves him. A spiritually circumcised heart, freed from idols and worldly preoccupations, seeks to do the will of its Father. “I delight in doing your will, O my God” (Psalm 40:8). As new creations who are born again, we will say: “I was crucified with Christ; And it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
The self is the greatest form of which it is said, “I desire, I need, I want, I must have, I want for my pleasure and it is time to be the small form, the medium form and the large form (Self). Destruction in us. The living Yahweh (God) will finally cleanse this land from our hearts.” Josiah is giving us an illustration of what our redeemer Yahshua (Jesus) will do for this world. Everything will collapse, crash, crash and crash. He will cleanse the world of all sin and those who cause sin. Upon this clear foundation, He will build His house of righteousness into which only the righteous will enter. Like Josiah, His chosen chosen children are forced to search their hearts and lives. Because of humble repentance, they will be freed from what the Holy Spirit points out as idols and they will instantly destroy them.
Temptations, the things we harbor in our minds, the desires and inclinations of our hearts will grow like weeds until they take over, until they blind and enslave us. We become unable to see Yahshua (Jesus) behind the idol. We can remember Him, talk about Him, mention Him, rejoice in Him, but between Yahshua (Jesus) and us there is an idol (or 2 or 3 or more), a stronghold. It’s best to break it off while it’s still small before it’s big enough to cover. Praise be to our helper, the almighty Holy Spirit who is able to overthrow every stronghold and vain imagination and idol that rises up against us by intimately knowing our dear Father and Savior (see 2 Corinthians 10:5). A personal relationship between Yahweh (God) and us will bring the highest reward and satisfaction, which our souls are designed to seek and receive. He alone is our great reward (see Genesis 15:1)! Knowing the reality of His presence is our inheritance. However, he will not dwell among idols, and we will never find him among a sad mixture of common things and holy things. He won’t be there. We are wasting time; We spin our wheels and go nowhere. “Truly, Yahweh’s (God’s) hand is not too small to save; Nor are His ears so dull that they cannot hear. But your sin has separated you from your God, and your sin has hid His face from you so that He cannot hear” (Isaiah 59:1-2).
The 2nd Commandment: Have No Idols — It’s Midnight Ministries
We confess Him with our lips, but our hearts will be far from Him because He will be far from us. Our sins and idols will separate us and drive a wedge between us. If only he does not inspire the desires and rewards of our hearts, there are idols that prevent it. If you say you have no idol, but He is not enough and you have some kind of dissatisfaction and desire and you want worldly and worldly satisfaction, then you have idols. He is not enough, because you do not have enough of Him. You have idols because you don’t have enough of him. It’s a vicious cycle. If you can’t give up anything to fully follow Yahshua (Jesus), that makes it an idol.
Cleanse the soil of your heart prayerfully, ceaselessly, mercilessly, turning neither to the right nor to the left as He glorifies the idols in your heart. Holy is Yahweh (God), His wrath will burn in judgment upon Him, His Son, His Spirit of Truth and a world filled with rebellion and resistance to the Scriptures. A remnant, like Josiah, recognized the idols that stood between them and the holy God and they earnestly confessed their sins and were freed from their consequences by covering them with the blood of Yahshua (Jesus); thus paving the way for an intimate, binding and worshipful relationship with their Almighty King and Savior.
