After the utter betrayal that was Allegiant, Four: A Divergent Collection felt—to me—like a much-needed reminder to fans of why we fell in love with Divergent in the first place. Reading this book was definitely a nostalgic experience, and while it didn’t reveal much about the main trilogy that I didn’t know about before, it was exciting nonetheless.
What Is The Book Four About In The Divergent Series
My adoration for Four’s character kind of disappeared when I read Allegiant. Maybe it’s because after waiting a year, I lost my real impression of him and felt like the Four in Allegiant didn’t live up to the Four we all loved in the first two books. So I was a little apprehensive before starting Four: A Divergent Collection, which is told entirely from her point of view and all.

However, I needn’t worry. This book was 100% true to Four as an individual, and if you were as enamored with him in Divergent and Insurgent as I was, you’re almost guaranteed to love it. Granted, if the novels are meant to build on the rest of the trilogy and probably aren’t recommended as prequels, it was fun to learn more about Four’s life before Tris and also shortly after meeting her.
I won’t go into the individual novels because anyone who has read the Divergent trilogy will know the main plot points in them. However, there were still a few surprises.
If you plan to read Four: A Different Collection before the main trilogy, I would advise against it. It contains quite a few spoilers, and there’s probably a reason it was published after Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant (personally, I’d say it’s to soften the blow of fan backlash towards the end of the trilogy). If the end goal really was to appease those like me who wanted to sacrifice and burn Allegiant — if it didn’t cost us too much to buy — I can’t say I’m unhappy with this particular form available.
