It’s been mercifully shot down by an editor more than once here because God exists and didn’t want this frozen package to follow me around for life. But then I opened my stupid mouth and maybe I should drop that last sentence.
How To Watch Avengers Movies In Order
Now, to state the obvious here: I was wrong. Billions of dollars in sequels, millions of fans, and thousands of reviews all gave me a glowing middle finger back at me and my thesis statement. I’m well-adjusted enough to admit when I’m wrong. I was wrong here. Thank you for personal growth. That being said, I wouldn’t be an A daredevil if I didn’t defend my thought process, and unfortunately for you, the reader of this article, that’s exactly what I intend to do. So here’s a bunch of paragraphs about why I came to this stupid conclusion that you never asked for and some of you probably won’t read.
By 2012, Marvel had given us five movies: two about Iron Man and one each about Thor, Hulk and Captain America.
Pretty good, but overall it doesn’t feel like these five films were incredible cinematic promises. Neither was considered to be anywhere near the same level as Nolan’s
, and together they were not the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE we know today. They were just some pretty cool superhero movies. There was no reason to give Marvel or Kevin Feige the benefit of the doubt. They hadn’t been worth it, and I was deeply skeptical about where this was going.

My colleagues, on the other hand, shared none of my skepticism. We started getting some plot information and simple marketing materials, and you would have thought from their level of confidence that we were getting a great collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Philip Seymour Hoffman. From their level of confidence you would have thought Daniel Day-Lewis was involved and it came from one of his 5 dozen pensioners. Another one. You would have thought from the level of confidence that someone had finally found the right vehicle for Ben Foster. Actually one more… more. Believably, you’d think Viola Davis was hired to play a supporting character who has a key emotional scene. But no. They just loved these superheroes and felt it would be great to push them all together. I didn’t share that sentiment for what I still feel are/were very solid reasons.
