It was recently announced that Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof is on board for the new Star Wars film, which will be Lucasfilm’s first theatrical release for the galaxy far, far away since 2019’s Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Also, the latest news is that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be directing this film, her biggest project for Marvel Studios after directing Iman Velani’s Episode 4 and Episode 5.

And now, a new report suggests that this new ride may still be tied to the final theatrical film, even after it turned out to be one of the biggest flops in Star Wars history.

The Hollywood Reporter followed up on news of the newly confirmed Star Wars movie, detailing its place in the Star Wars story.
Sources told THR that the film is intended to be a standalone project, but that it could lead to other events, which is contrary to what Lucasfilm has planned in recent years. It’s also said to take place after 2019’s Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and “maybe” even feature some characters from the sequel trilogy.
Additionally, Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof will be in the director’s chair alongside Marvel executive Ms. Sharmin Obaid-Chinoy and co-creator Justin Britt-Gibson. The latter joined the project after Star Wars Celebration 2022, when a secret writers’ room was set up with a two-week session in July.
The meeting was attended by Obi-Wan Kenobi consulting producer Rayna McClendon, writer Patrick Somerville, creator Andy Greenwald and Star Wars executive Dave Filoni.

With the uncertainty surrounding everything from Star Wars hitting theaters, it’s still a big mystery when or if this new movie will be made or what it will be about. But especially with this news, it seems that the Skywalker Saga is not over as many fans had hoped.
