Forty years and still going strong! Toyota’s Camry is the king of the industry with a two-decade history as the best-selling passenger sedan in North America. The current generation has held the mantle since its debut in 2017.
When Is New Camry Coming Out
Blame it on changing buyer preferences and the never-ending quest to fit bums into SUVs, but the humble sedan continues to struggle in the face of others getting the axe. Its most direct rival, the Honda Accord, recently underwent a significant facelift. So, in response, we imagined what the next Camry, codenamed XV80, might look like and dive into everything we know so far.
Toyota Camry Hybrid First Drive
With a three-box design, this study touches on the Japanese automaker’s recent design range, as well as the latest Prius and more Crown crossovers for an ultra-modern look that looks fast while standing still.
The visual impact starts up front with slim boomerang-shaped LED headlights, contrasting trapezoidal grille graphics and a curved hood that doesn’t look like a Camry. Large wheels are pushed to the corners to cement a dynamic stance, while the smooth side surface presents a great tension applied to the lower doors and the shoulder line.
Muscular overhangs and a full-width LED rear light cluster help define the rear, along with a tapered hood, sculpted rear window and a lower diffuser flanked by four tailpipes.
Underpinning the ninth-generation global Camry is likely to be a modified version of the TNGA-K (GA-K) platform used in the current car and a handful of other Toyota and Lexus vehicles such as the Crown, ES, RAV4 and Highlander . .

Not being completely new to this will raise some eyebrows; however, this is the same condition used by Honda and its new Accord. The reasoning behind this is likely a declining sedan market and a shift of development funds to BEVs.
There will be a larger infotainment display with improved graphics and Toyota’s latest operating system. This brings together wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a “Hey Toyota” voice function, connected navigation and over-the-air software updates. Other goodies will include a digital instrument cluster and a smartphone-based remote key entry device, all of which are likely to be inspired by the larger Crown pictured above and the new Prius.
Series hybrid engines are a dominant game for the Camry, and the electronically assisted 2.5-liter engine is likely to remain a firm favorite when the midsize model enters its ninth generation. A plug-in hybrid shared with the RAV4 Prime is on the cards, boasting 302 hp. (225kW) with an EV range of up to 44 miles.
Additionally, speculation suggests it will use a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in two states of tune to replace the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 that once powered the lineup. The 2.4-liter turbocharged unit will produce around 265 hp. (198kW), while a more powerful hybrid variant can about 335 hp. (250kW), sending power to all four wheels.

The timing of the revelation is largely unknown at this stage. However, some experts have indicated that it will debut as a 2024 or 2025 model next year.

The current generation Toyota Camry made its debut in early 2017 at the Detroit International Auto Show and is expected to be updated in 2020. It is currently sold in the United States with an available Nightshade Edition and an optional V6 engine, marking its fifth year on the production lines for the large Japanese sedan. Looking at previous generations of Camry, most of them had a life cycle of five or six years, suggesting that a new generation could be coming soon.
Had the same thought and decided to preview the successor of today’s model, which carries the internal designation XV70. What you see in the gallery attached below are two images that show the new Camry front and rear with a new design language inspired by the new Toyota Crown.
Here’s Hoping The 2024 Toyota Camry Looks As Wild As These Renders
The visual influences of the Crown family can best be seen in the front, where there is a massive grille at the bottom of the bumper. It is flanked by two gloss black trim areas, and above them are the headlights. The rear now has slim taillights with a coast-to-coast LED strip connecting the light clusters. A small trunk spoiler adds a sporty feel and matches well with the diffuser-like panel in the bumper.
Toyota has been tight-lipped about the future of the Camry, although it is believed that the large sedan will get a new generation in the next two or three years. We expect that the successor of today’s model will continue to be based on the GA-K platform, which has been developed from components shared with the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Seeing how every car segment is declining, we expect the optional V6 engines to be discontinued with the new generation, however.
If you want a six-cylinder Camry, now is the time. For the 2023 model year, the sedan gets an optional 310-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Like the base 2.5-liter mill, the V6 is mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. If you want something more fuel-efficient, there’s also a 2.5-liter Atkinson engine in the Camry Hybrid. The Toyota Camry, America’s best-selling midsize sedan for the past 21 years, will receive a complete redesign and enter its ninth generation. It will continue to be marketed as a hybrid vehicle, possibly with new variants. The next generation of Toyota Camry Hybrid should include significant improvements in all areas. Spy photos have revealed that the next-generation Camry will follow Toyota’s new design formula for its sedans. Unlike the first generations of the Camry, but very similar to the model of the eighth generation, it will have an elegant design and a sporty style.

The design of the new Camry includes a low front hood and a roofline that creates a low waistline that gives the car the impression of a low driver. Also, the roofline will slope down at a steeper angle than a traditional sedan. While we have seen a prototype with a single shoe with dual tips, we are confident that one of the sports grades will have a double shoe with quad tips.
A hammer-like front and a smooth transition to the rear with a sloping roofline and a flowing profile can make the next-generation Camry Hybrid immediately recognizable next to the current model, which is sharp and boxy. We have created a rendering that shows with this type of design. The next-generation Camry test mule spotted on the roads looked quite similar to our rendered car.
Next Generation Toyota Camry Due In 2024
The next generation Toyota Camry Hybrid we made (shown above) has a livelier character with an emotional and technical front end. The slim C-shaped LED headlights consist of DRLs with a double panel at the top and four low and high beams. There is a thin upper grille between the headlights, with a radar (for Toyota Safety Sense) integrated in the center. The Air is shorter, wider and more angular and features a mesh grille. The vertical side air intakes are purely aesthetic and have double horizontal fins to give the front more aggressiveness.
When it comes to the interior, we know that Toyota emphasizes form over function and favors the evolution of generations. As such, don’t expect to follow European and South Korean models with unusual features like a two-spoke steering wheel or touch panel climate control. The Japanese automaker is in no hurry to embrace minimalism and does not believe in fake luxury.
In place of the 7-inch Toyota Audio and 9-inch Toyota Audio Plus touchscreen infotainment systems, the next-generation Toyota Camry Hybrid should feature the 8- and 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen infotainment systems. Developed in the United States, Toyota Audio Multimedia comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth connectivity, Drive Connect Cloud Navigation, OTA update capability and a new voice assistant that responds to “Hey, bye, bye, OK Toyota.”
The next generation Toyota Camry should have a new Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) instead of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ (TSS 2.5+) of the outgoing car. The new ADAS suite includes improvements made possible by sensors with enhanced detection capabilities.
