On Christmas morning, when many college students were excited to receive money and clothes from their parents, BYU student Annie Bartlam squealed with delight when her mother handed her an envelope containing two small slips of paper, and with it, tickets to the Salt Lake musical Wicked “.

“It was one of the few things I asked for this year for Christmas, and my mom was lucky enough to get tickets for both of us this summer,” Bartlam said.
A ‘wicked’ Problem Is Not Necessarily Evil, But More Complex Than We May Understand
“Wicked” will tour the Capitol Theater in Salt Lake City from July 9 to August 24 as part of Broadway Across America, Utah.
Bartlam isn’t the only Utah resident awaiting its arrival. Many people in and around Salt Lake have been planning to see this show since tickets went on sale.
“I’ve seen it three times in Utah, twice in New York and once in London,” said Lindsay Hunter of American Fork. “The actors and actresses are wonderful, I love the music and the story.”
“This is a popular song. “Utah audiences seem to follow national trends in what they like to watch,” said Megan Sanborn Jones, a professor in BYU’s theater department. Check out his success in talking to a popular audience. The song is catchy and has a lot of power solos and duets for the girls. This is a familiar, interesting story.”
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Utah has a strong theater presence with many productions in Salt Lake City, as well as local colleges with theater and music programs.
Hailing from Pocatello, Idaho, Kylie McKee and her nine siblings have been making music for most of their lives, and “Wicked” remains one of their family favorites. He added that Hett’s religious background may contribute to Utahns’ appreciation for music.
“I think that as members of the LDS Church or religious people in general, we like good music and things that are really uplifting,” McKee said. “‘Wicked’ is a lot of fun; it feels good and can be played at home without checking for young kids. I think that’s a big reason why people in Utah like it, especially since a lot of Utahns live religious lives life.”
While “Wicked” has proven popular with Utahns, it’s not the only audience. It has become a global phenomenon for audiences of all backgrounds.
A Little Bit Wicked
“I saw (Wicked) in London in 2011 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. I stood in line in Chicago a few years ago, but couldn’t get in because of its popularity,” said Roger Sorensen, associate dean of BYU’s School of Theater and Media Arts. “It’s not just people who love film in Utah. Wicked is currently performing and recording in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis and London. The lyrics and music were written by Stephen Schwartz, one of the best and most famous writers of Broadway musicals.

Sorensen said. “Sometimes they show it to viewers who are familiar with cinema. However, I think that the popularity of “Wicked” is not limited to the genre of the film. I think people from all walks of life, all over the world love him.”

In the movie world, there are musicals and then there are MUSICALS: productions so high they “defy gravity.”
“The Wicked” turned out to be one of those people – which is no surprise to many people here in Salt Lake City.

The Broadway production of “Wicked” broke box office records 20 times at the Gershwin Theater – often grossing more than $1.7 million a week.
Since its inception in March 2005, the national tour of “The Wicked” has broken house records in every country it has performed.
“The show is about a lot of things: how history is written and how writers decide what history is and how governments and societies decide what’s good and what’s bad,” Stone said. “What’s good and what’s bad is a touchy subject in Salt Lake.”
