The Lord of the Rings began as the end of Tolkien’s 1937 fantasy novel, The Hobbit, but later evolved into a larger work. It was written between 1937 and 1949, mainly during the Second World War in a letter to his son, “and finally, to please him, he published it as a trilogy from 1954 to 1955, one book at a time. both young and old. and children and adults alike with equal enjoyment.” (Eyre, 134-35) This is the third best-selling book with 150 million copies sold. J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is a true masterpiece. The most read and powerful fantasy epic of all time, it is also one of the most memorable stories and the requirements mentioned earlier.
First published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings set the tone on which all epic fantasy/quests have been built since. Encouraged by the wonderful wizard Gandalf, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins embarks on a daring, treacherous journey to destroy the One Ring. This ring – created and lost by the Dark Lord, Sauron, hundreds of years ago – is a terrible weapon, which Sauron desperately wants back. With the power of the ring in his possession, the Dark Lord poured his wrath upon the entire Midwest. The only way to stop this terrible event from happening is to return the Ring to Mordor, the only place where it can be destroyed. Unfortunately for our heroes, Mordor is also Sauron’s lair. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a good read not only for fantasy fans but also for lovers of classic books.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1954-55) Lord of the Rings, first British edition, first edition, published by George Allen & Unwin. Nice rebound in full black leather. Also, a letter written by hand and drawn by Tolkien. Letter: one page, 8vo (176 x 135mm.), on Sandfield Road cream colored note paper, one folded in half to include envelope, some creases and light creases, Headington, Oxford, 15 August 1964. Answer to Potts’ question to Tolkien. The imaginary teacher responds by telling him to disappear: Mr. Potts I think you ask too much of a busy person. Most of your questions can’t be answered, mine, and some can’t. You can say that I am young, because I personally do not believe that such questions can reveal truth and wisdom. Thank you JRR Tolkien. Richard Potts asked Tolkien the question when he was working on his essay on children’s books, hoping that the famous author would clarify his work. I don’t have a copy of the angry questions but Potts remembers that his letter got back to me. Not what I expected. I have asked many questions, how and when he wrote, where his writings came from. I really liked his work but I realized that it was too long. I may have mentioned this reservation and this may have caused anger in his letter. Potts became a successful children’s author in her own right, with titles such as A Boy and His Bicycle, Haunted Mine and Tod’s Owl. The main letter shows Tolkien’s attitude and his defense when his work is criticized. Tolkien wrote many letters during his lifetime and many complained that LOTR was too short. Tolkien himslef wrote in the introduction to the next edition of LOTR, that it was not a comparison of anything, his only regret was that it was short. It is not surprising, then, that Potts’s difficulty was there in coming up with such a solution. Tolkien would not have wasted his ink if he had known that his letters and autographs would fetch a lot of money.
