While the general public is unlikely to receive a fourth stimulus check, an influential nonpartisan lobbying group on behalf of senior citizens is pushing Congress to send Social Security recipients a $1,400 check to help them fight inflation.
The Senior Citizens League sent a letter to members of Congress in the House and Senate urging them to consider targeted stimulus for senior citizens.
“We’ve heard from thousands of them [seniors] who’ve depleted their retirement savings, who’ve started eating only one meal a day, who’ve cut their pills in half because they can’t afford their prescription drugs, because of inflation this year, just to name a few.” has done so many have had to take drastic measures,” the letter read. “Many have written to us saying ‘our government has forgotten the US’.”

An influential partisan group lobbying on behalf of senior citizens is pushing Congress for a fourth stimulus payment to benefit senior citizens.
The Senior Citizens League recently sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to consider a targeted stimulus designed to benefit Social Security recipients. The group is seeking payment of $1,400.
“We’ve heard from thousands of them (seniors) who have depleted their retirement savings, who have started taking just one pill a day, who have started to cut their pills because they can’t afford their prescription drugs, because just to name a few drastic steps to many have had to pick up because of what inflation has done to them this year,” TSCL chairman Rick Delaney said in the letter.

The $1,400 stimulus check for Social Security recipients, Delaney noted, would be a way for senior citizens to get additional nontaxable income.
“We believe a specific incentive for Social Security recipients will help offset the higher costs some will face if next year’s COLA pushes them into a higher tax bracket, leading to higher tax rates on their income and allowances on their Medicare Part B premiums,” he said. .
Social Security recipients will receive a 5.9% monthly raise in 2022, the largest increase in 40 years. The average retiree will see a raise of about $92 a month, but much of that is expected to be eaten up by inflation and increases in Medicare premiums.
Three stimulus payments have been approved so far to buffer the economic impact of the Covid pandemic.
